I live in California and I've registered my vehicle with the DMV under planned non-operation status. Do I still need to keep my insurance policy?

Legally, as long as you comply with the rules of planned non-operation (PNO), you do not need to carry insurance.
However, if you are still financing your vehicle, your contract may require that you keep your
car insurance
.
Keep in mind: You may want to consider getting
comprehensive insurance
to protect your vehicle from a variety of risks while it’s in storage. These risks include:
  • Fire
  • Theft
  • Vandalism
  • Natural disasters
