Can lower octane gas cause a misfire?

I normally fill my car up with premium 93 octane gasoline, but a few days ago I fueled up with basic 87 octane. After I filled up, I noticed my car was vibrating and lagging when I accelerated. Could my car be misfiring due to the lower octane fuel?

I’m sorry to hear about your vehicle issues! If your vehicle calls for high octane fuel, running lower octane can compromise power, reduce MPG, and cause a misfire.
Lower octane gas impacts your vehicle’s spark plugs and air to fuel ratio in the cylinder, which can damage the engine. As such, you should rely on premium, high octane gas to fuel your vehicle and prevent any future misfires or engine problems.
You’ll want to visit a mechanic to have your car checked out. They’ll likely drain the fuel in your tank to avoid any additional damage.
