Can driving cause arm pain?
I’ve noticed some pain in my arm lately (like after working out). It started when I began driving more often. Can driving be the cause of this pain?

Hope your arm pain isn’t too serious! You can definitely get arm pains from driving—especially if you are driving long distances without breaks. This is most commonly caused by poor driving posture, which adds strain to your arms.
You can reduce the strain in your arms by doing the following:
- Stretch and take breaks: Doing some light stretching before and during driving breaks can help relax your arm muscles. Make sure to take breaks every hour when driving long distances.
- Don’t grip the steering wheel too tightly: Gripping the wheel engages your muscles and can lead to muscle strain. Try to loosen your grip while still firmly holding the wheel.
- Correct your posture: Adjust your steering wheel and seat distance so that you are 10 to 12 inches away from the wheel. The back of your seat should also recline 100 to 110 degrees.
- Add seat belt cushion: Shoulder strain can also lead to arm pains. Having the seatbelt cushioned can ensure that you’re strapped in without affecting your shoulders.
If the pain persists after the adjustments, driving may not be the cause. You should consult your physician for more advice on relieving the pain.
