Are car dealerships open on Sundays?

I’ve finally saved up enough to buy a new car, but I’m having trouble finding a dealership that’s open on Sunday when I don’t have work. Is every car dealership closed on Sundays?

Unfortunately, it’s illegal for car dealerships to be open on Sundays in most states. Here’s what you need to know about trying to
buy a new car
on a Sunday:
  • Most states passed “Blue Laws” in the late 1800s/early 1900s that made certain actions illegal on Sundays for religious observations.
  • Most Blue Laws have since been repealed, but many states have kept the laws prohibiting dealerships from selling cars on Sunday.
  • Even without the law, many dealerships continue to close up shop on Sundays to observe a day of rest for their sales teams.
The bottom line: You’ll be pretty hard-pressed to find a car dealership that’s open on Sunday. Consider
buying a car online
or finding a
private seller
with a flexible schedule if you absolutely can’t buy a car any other day of the week.
