Not all Ford Explorers have AWD, but it’s an available option on seven trims for the 2022 and 2023 model years. AWD comes standard on the Ford Explorer Timberline trim.
AWD on the Ford Explorer can be a bit confusing because Ford calls its AWD system Ford Intelligent 4WD. Ford Intelligent 4WD functions exactly like an AWD system does, but adapts it to make the Explorer more off-road capable.
