The newest Gigafactory is located in Berlin. This means resources for more vehicles, but the Berlin Gigafactory has also made news for a few quirks.
Autoblog, there will be a beer brewed for the new facility. This unusual addition to the Tesla factory will be accompanied by other interesting features, but it will also be a high-tech facility.
Beer at the Tesla Berlin Gigafactory
At the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin County Fair in early October, CEO Elon Musk announced that there would be an official beer for the new factory. Dubbed the GigaBier, it will come in a bottle that may be inspired by the angular design of the upcoming
Cybertruck. Little else is known about the beer right now, including if people will be able to buy GigaBier outside of the factory.
This will not be the first alcoholic beverage offered by Tesla. The company's eccentric CEO once tweeted about a Tesla tequila, or "Teslaquila," which turned into a real product. Bottles of the tequila became collector's pieces, so when the Gigabier does come out, it would make sense for these to become collectible too.
In addition to the beer, there will also be graffiti on the walls of the Gigafactory. This will represent the company's image and fit with the art scene in Berlin. Finally, for employee convenience, there will be a train station at the factory.
What will the new Berlin Gigafactory produce?
Outside of the gimmicks, the new Gigafactory will be known for technological innovation. It will first focus on producing Model Y electric SUVs for the European market. Musk has shown off a new 4680 lithium-ion battery configuration that will be used in the Berlin facility.
There’s no word yet on whether other Tesla vehicles such as the Model S or Model 3 will be produced at the Berlin Gigafactory in the future.
The County Fair event may have served as an opening ceremony for the new factory, but fans will have to wait for Berlin-assembled Teslas. There have been several delays in getting the factory started in Berlin, and there’s still no start date for vehicle production.
Other Gigafactory facilities around the globe
With the opening of the Berlin Gigafactory, Teslas may be more available for the European market. This isn’t the first Tesla factory built outside of the United States.
The first non-American Tesla facility was Giga Shanghai, which opened in 2019. This factory produces Model Y and Model 3 vehicles for the large electric car market in China.
As for Tesla's headquarters in the U.S., the company is currently based in California and has facilities in New York and Nevada. However, Elon Musk wants to move the
main Tesla campus to Austin, Texas.
Tesla fans will have to wait to see if they can get their hands on a bottle of GigaBier, but you don't have to wait to upgrade your car insurance.
