background
Jeep
owners take a lot of pride in their vehicles and they’ve built a sense of community around this. They’re known to greet each other with the Jeep wave. This has been around for years now and isn't something that the Jeep brand started.
With that being said, Jeep has taken notice of the wave and decided to use it. It started the Jeep Wave reward program for drivers who want extra perks to go along with their great new ride.
If you’re a Jeep owner, you’re probably familiar with the Jeep wave.

What exactly is the Jeep wave?

If you're new to owning a Jeep, you may not be aware of why everyone keeps waving at you. There are a few key components to know about the Jeep wave to truly understand it.
One, while this doesn't only apply to Jeep Wranglers, it's more common amongst these drivers. If you're in a Grand Cherokee, you can always wave, but other Jeep drivers may not wave back.
Two, there's a hierarchy to the Jeep wave, according to
TireBuyer
. In other words, you can't just wave when you see another Jeep. Who waves first depends on a number of factors such as how old the Jeep is, how much dirt covers it, whether or not it's topless, and what kind of accessories you have.
Three, you need to do the wave properly. It's not a parade wave. It's a simple lift of two fingers, usually with the left hand. You can also do three fingers which looks like a "W" for Wrangler.

Jeep has officially adopted the wave

Such a genuine sense of community was inspiring for Jeep, which is why it developed the Jeep Wave program. According to
Jeep
, it is a premium owner loyalty program. The Jeep Wave program is also designed to celebrate Jeep's 80th anniversary.
Before we discuss the benefits, it's important to note who can and can't participate. This program will begin with the 2021 model year. There are a few vehicles from 2016-2020 that may get the chance to enroll, but you'll have to speak to a Jeep representative to know if your vehicle qualifies.
All Wrangler and Gladiator trims will be automatically enrolled. For the Grand Cherokee, only the Overland, Summit, SRT, Trailhawk, Trackhawk, and High Altitude trim levels are eligible. Only the Trailhawk trim is eligible for the Cherokee, Compass, and Renegade.
