Audi Grand Sphere Marks the Brand's Future EV Plans

Audi
is also looking towards a future of electric vehicles
(EV). In the upcoming years, the Audi lineup will see massive changes and redesigns to suit the era of EVs. Audi has recently released silhouettes of the Audi Sphere concepts: a trio of electric cars. According to
Green Car Reports
, Audi senior vice president Henrik Wenders posted a video on his LinkedIn page of the three concepts.
When will the Audi Sphere concepts be revealed?
The concept cars will be unveiled within the next 12 to 18 months to preview the automaker’s future design direction.
The Audi Sphere trio includes the Grand Sphere, Urban Sphere, and Sky Sphere. So far, Audi has released images of the Grand Sphere, a large fastback sedan that’s set to debut at a mobility show in Munich, Germany, in September.
The Sky Sphere is a sports car that you can expect to see unveiled in mid-August during the California Monterey Car Week. The Urban Sphere, which looks like a crossover or minivan, won’t debut until 2022.

What features will be included in the Grand Sphere?
The silhouettes of the trio show different designs across the three concepts. Since only images have been released, a lot of potential car features are based on speculation.

reported that the Grand Sphere will be like an "A7 Sportback in a post-ICE era." The hood is relatively short, so there won’t need to be a bulky combustion engine. The wheelbase has been maximized, like other EVs, so the cabin is spacious. The Grand Sphere will feature Level 4 autonomous driving, one step away from full self-driving. This concept will take a minimalist approach with no screen-heavy dashboard, and have a cozy atmosphere.
The future of design for Audi
The concepts were developed by Audi’s Artemis team. When the team was announced, the automaker said the first project would be a "highly efficient electric car," as reported by Green Car Reports. The car would be available in 2024 and offer upgradable features as well as autonomous driving.
The Grand Sphere’s body size and style mean that it could be a fully electric replacement of the Audi A8; the brand’s flagship sedan. Audi said that they’re moving to a single processing point for propulsion, sensors, and systems.
With the A6 E-Tron concept, Audi shows its plans for EV design in the future. Designer Sascha Heyde said that "We want to build the most attractive and progressive cars—also in the electric world," according to
