Is there a spare in a Ford Ranger?

Yes, the Ford Ranger comes equipped with a spare tire and a repair kit. Where the spare tire sits varies from model to model. It may be under the hood, although you can most likely find it under the trunk bed.
Depending on the model, the Ford Ranger replacement tire will either be:
  • A small tire (or ‘cake’), which takes up less  space but will not function as a permanent replacement
  • A normal size tire which can be used permanently going forward
For a cake tire, you’ll want to head to a tire shop and get it replaced with a full-size tire as soon as possible

How to use the spare tire on a Ford Ranger

Here’s a step-by-step guide to accessing your Ford Ranger’s spare tire located under the trunk:
  • Find somewhere safe to park your vehicle
  • Pop the trunk and remove the floor panel under the cargo space
  • Locate and put together the two jack handle pieces by sliding the pieces together until you hear a click
  • If your Ranger came with the wheel lock option, unlock the wheel with the spare tire key
  • Using the access slot between the rear bumper and tailgate, use the square end of the jack to engage the spare tire's lift cable by rotating the handle counterclockwise
  • Keep rotating the handle until the retainer separates from the spare tire, then remove the tire from underneath the truck
Once the tire is released, you can change the flat tire and replace it with the spare. Make sure you’ve got a jack ready to elevate your car.
Remember: if the spare tire isn’t full-sized, you’ll want to head to the mechanic as soon as possible to get a full-sized tire installed.
