There has been a lot of news circulating about the Audi Q6 nameplate lately, but unfortunately, there’s no mention of a plug-in hybrid variant.
So what do we know so far? Well, Audi is currently working on a joint venture with China’s largest automaker, SAIC, to release the conventional gasoline Q6 in China exclusively. While this model isn’t expected to be available in the US, the all-electric Audi Q6 e-tron is expected to make its worldwide debut in 2023.
Kind of a bummer that Audi’s biggest SUV ever won’t offer a PHEV option, but the A6’s future certainly seems bright (more on that later). Fortunately, there are more options from the German automaker!
The Audi Q6 is not available as a plug-in hybrid. In fact, it’s not available in any form anywhere in America. So what gives?
The Q6 nameplate will belong to Audi’s largest ever three-row SUV. Audi and SAIC have plans to produce and sell the Q6 exclusively in China.
Even though Audi has been making international strides with its hybrid and electric technology, the localized production of the Audi Q6 will be limited to a conventional gasoline-powered engine. The exact performance specifications have yet to be released.
Considering Audi already has great success selling its Q7 and Q8 models in the United States, it’s unlikely the Q6 will ever make an appearance in this exact form.
But there’s a release on the horizon everyone can get excited about: an alternate variation of the Q6 will make a full international debut in 2023 as part of Audi’s all-electric e-tron class.
