One of China’s most prominent EV brands, Geely, has recently unveiled an all-new electric vehicle
—and a truck no less. This comes at a time when more and more Chinese urbanites are looking to explore the wilderness, as camping becomes one of the most popular hobbies. Geely’s new EV truck will be sold under a new brand name: RADAR. This new EV truck, the RD6, will be the first model in a soon-to-come lineup. Perhaps it’s time to unveil some more affordable car insurance options with a little help from the Jerry app. Stop overpaying for car insurance
, and start saving today. The RADAR RD6
Reuters
offers fresh reporting on the RADAR RD6, which is funded by parent company Geely. This new electric truck will be anticipated to offer somewhere close to 400 miles of battery range, though the RD6’s starting price is still unknown. Powertrain options and specs seem to be a mystery as well. RADAR’s CEO Ling Shiquan explains to Reuters that electric trucks are becoming more popular, as “More people are pursuing a healthy lifestyle with more outdoor activities while the governments are also relaxing restrictions for pickups in cities.”
Electric trucks are surging in popularity in Chinese cities
As RADAR’s CEO pointed out, the Chinese government used to be far more strict about allowing the use of pickups in Chinese cities. However, regulations have been relaxing in the recent decade.
It used to be that only Chinese farmers and those in industrial jobs could operate pickups, but times are changing. COVID-19 has also changed the way that many Chinese citizens feel about spending time in urban areas. The less-crowded environments and cleaner air of rural and wilderness areas are becoming a weekend destination.
What else is known about Geely?
Few people actually realize that Geely owns Volvo, which means we could very well see a Volvo electric truck in America sometime in the future. While this is all speculation, electric trucks have been massively popular in the U.S. The Ford F-150 Lightning, the Ford Ranger, the Rivian R1T—these electric trucks have all been huge successes.
It’s not certain if Geely-owned Volvo will put out an electric truck for North America anytime soon, but we can certainly hope. Reuters also indicates that Geely is seriously considering bringing its anticipated electric truck to the American car market.
