2022 Lexus UX ground clearance

The Lexus UX line of crossover SUVs has had a lot of ups and downs when it comes to ground clearance, but the rollercoaster ride seems to have finally stabilized in 2022.
Here’s a look at how high each trim level of the 2022 Lexus UX sits off the ground:
  • UX200
    : 6.3 inches
  • UX200 F Sport: 6.3 inches
  • UX250h
    : 6.3 inches
  • UX250h F Sport: 6.3 inches
  • UX200 Luxury: 6.3 inches
  • UX250h Luxury: 6.3 inches
As you can see each and every model of the UX sits 6.3 inches off the ground. You might not think much of that, but it’s not uncommon for ground clearance to fluctuate from trim to trim on other makes and models.
Hybrids tend to sit lower than standard gas engine vehicles in order to offset the extra weight they carry and improve fuel efficiency. What’s interesting about the 2022 UX is that the hybrid UX250h models still have the same ground clearance as their standard engine counterparts.

Lexus UX ground clearance over the years

This stability hasn’t always been the case with the Lexus UX. Here’s a look at what ground clearance on the UX has looked like since its introduction in 2019.
  • 2021: 3.5 inches–6.3 inches
  • 2020: 6.3 inches–6.5
  • 2019: 6 inches–7 inches
The 2021 edition of the UX saw both the lowest ground clearance and the widest range of clearances, while the 2019 edition saw the nameplate’s highest ground clearance to date.

What is ground clearance—and why does it matter?

Ground clearance is the measurement of the distance between the ground and the lowest part of a vehicle’s undercarriage. That space is what allows you to pass over objects without damaging your car. Ground clearance is especially important to people who want to take their vehicles off-road, where they might encounter large rocks and logs.
Experts suggest that you have at least 6.6 inches of ground clearance before you consider doing any off-roading with your vehicle. And that’s just for gravel roads and dirt paths. Experts recommend a minimum of 8.8 inches of clearance for overland trips and at least 10.8 inches of clearance for rock crawling and serious 4x4 missions.

Is the Lexus UX a good off-road vehicle?

Not especially, no. With a ground clearance of 6.3 inches, the 2022 Lexus UX doesn’t meet the expert-recommended 6.6-inch minimum clearance for non-paved road driving. Only the 2019 Lexus UX has offered a ground clearance suitable for even gravel road outings.
In addition to good ground clearance, experts also recommend a powerful engine and all-wheel or four-wheel drive for off-roading adventures. Although all-wheel drive is available on the UX250h hybrid trims, its 181 horsepower engine might not be enough for rougher roads.
If you’ve got your mind set on getting off the beaten path, you can find an off-road-worthy luxury vessel in the same price range as the Lexus UX. The Volvo XC40 is more than capable with a 248-horsepower engine, standard all-wheel drive, and a ground clearance of 8.3 inches.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
