The spacious Dodge Caliber makes an excellent used car, and there are many at-home modifications you can add to trick it out even more!
The Dodge Caliber was a compact hatchback
produced from 2007 to 2012. Boasting a spacious cabin and ample cargo space, the Caliber was an excellent budget option for families on the go. Though the Caliber was discontinued in 2012, many remain available at used car dealerships nationwide. Before you begin customizing your used Dodge Caliber, there’s a lot you need to go over. Fortunately, we've created a guide to modifying your Dodge Caliber to best suit your needs and taste.
Dodge Caliber customization options
The 2012 Dodge Caliber was the last model year produced before Dodge discontinued the line. Used Calibers currently sell for about $6,000.
Frankly, the Caliber wasn’t much fun to drive, with a harsh suspension and a good deal of body motion on the road. It also only came in five colors, four of which were some variation of white, silver, or black. However, the Caliber did boast a roomy cabin and a number of additional desirable features, including satellite radio, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and cruise control.
The 2012 Dodge Caliber came in three trims: SE
, SXT
, and SXT Plus. All three trims were powered by the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine, which produced 158 horsepower and 141 pounds of torque. The SE and SXT Plus came standard with a five-speed manual transmission but could be upgraded to a continuously variable automatic transmission, which came standard on the SXT. The Caliber was fairly fuel-efficient, netting 27 mpg combined with the manual transmission and 24 mpg combined with the continuously variable automatic transmission. The SE was the entry-level Caliber trim. Its features list included air-conditioning, heated mirrors, 15-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, and keyless entry. It also had Bluetooth phone connectivity and a four-speaker sound system.
Next up was the SXT. The SXT featured a number of additional upgrades, including foglights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a four-way power driver seat, and a reclining rear seatback. It also sported a firmer suspension than the SE, providing a smoother ride.
The SXT Plus was the 2012 Caliber’s top-of-the-line trim. It added a sport-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, performance tires, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The SXT Plus also included upgraded cloth upholstery and could be equipped with a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics premium sound system.

The best Dodge Caliber mods
Since buying a customized Dodge Caliber direct from the factory is no longer an option, you’ll have to make a bit more of an effort to personalize your used ride. Thankfully, there are a number of aftermarket modifications you can make to tailor your Dodge Caliber to suit your needs and style. Let's go over a few:
Paint
One of the downsides of the 2012 Dodge Caliber was that it only came in five fairly bland colors. Luckily, you can head down to your local body shop and purchase a custom paint job, coloring your Caliber however you want! Custom paint jobs range in price from $1,000 up to $4,500, so be sure to obtain quotes from multiple shops before you commit.
Interior LED lighting
Dazzle your passengers with an added splash of color and style. LED accent lighting beneath your dashboard and along your footwells is a fun and affordable way to spruce up your interior. Cheap LED kits start at just $40, and if you’re willing to fork over a little more money, you can even buy a smartphone-controlled set!
Floor mats
Just because your Dodge Caliber is over a decade old doesn’t mean it needn’t be clean. Keep your Dodge Caliber’s interior free of dirt and debris by purchasing a set of laser-cut floor mats. Costing less than $200, laser-cut mats will perfectly fit your Caliber’s flooring, so you can spend your time working on other modifications to your car rather than cleaning.
Seat covers
The Caliber’s interior is fairly bland, with dull and cheap cloth upholstery. Keep your seats protected and add a bit of style with a set of seat covers. A cheap pair of seat covers can cost as little as $25, and materials range from faux fur to sleek leather.
Intake and exhaust ports
Enlarging your engine’s intake and exhaust ports allows it to draw extra air into and out of its cylinders, mixing it with more fuel, and generating more power. Porting your engine typically costs somewhere between $500 and $1,000.
Key Takeaway While the Dodge Caliber is no longer being manufactured, you can still customize your ride with at-home modifications.
