background
The recommended tire pressure for a Chevy Cruze is between 30 and 35 pounds per square inch (PSI) for both front and rear tires depending on the model trim.
Maintaining the correct air pressure in your car’s tires is crucial to driving safely and prolonging the lifespan of the tire itself. Improperly inflated tires can lead to decreased fuel efficiency, the ability to steer, cause a potential blowout, and uneven tread wear.
But if your tire pressure monitoring system is malfunctioning, it can be difficult to know when your tires actually need air. That’s where

What is the right tire pressure for a Chevy Cruze?

For most models, the recommended tire pressure for a Chevy Cruze is 35 psi for both front and rear tires. You can check your owner’s manual, the sticker on the inside of the door frame on the driver’s side, or the tires to confirm.
However, you may need a lower tire pressure depending on your model trim. For the
Chevy Cruze LTZ
, the recommended tire pressure is 30 psi for both front and rear tires.
Keep in mind these are the recommended tire pressures for the factory tires that come with your Chevy Cruze. High-performance tires may require a different tire pressure. If you opted for bigger wheels or swapped out your factory tires for aftermarket ones, you’ll need to check the tire pressure specifications for your new set.

MORE: How low can your tire pressure go?

How to check Chevy Cruze tire pressure

Knowing how to check your tire pressure is an essential part of proper vehicle maintenance. Don’t worry, it’s cheap and easy too!
Just remove the air valve cap and press the tire pressure gauge into the valve stem to get the pressure reading. Compare the number to the recommended tire pressure and then add or remove air as needed. You can check your tire pressure at home or at your local air-fill station where they’ll have a pressure gauge you can use.
Keep your eye out for other signs that indicate tire pressure issues including decreased performance or fuel economy, bumpy ride, and difficulty steering.

How often should you check tire pressure?

As a general rule of thumb, you should check your tire pressure once a month and before a long trip.

How to tell if your Chevy Cruze needs new tires

It’s recommended you change your Chevrolet Cruze tires every three years or so depending on your driving habits. However, it’s a good idea to look for signs of wear whenever you check your tire pressure. If you spot low tread depth, uneven wear, and cracked rubber, it’s time for new tires.
Not sure what’s considered low tread depth? Stick a US penny (with Lincoln’s neck first) into the tire tread. If you can see the top of the President’s head, you’ve got low tread depth and you should swap out your tire.

How to reset the Chevy Cruze tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

The TPMS light serves as a friendly reminder to check your tire pressure but when it’s always illuminated you’ll never know when you actually need to refill your tires. If you’ve refilled the tires in your Cruze and the tire pressure warning light won’t turn off, you’ll need to reset your TPMS light.
Sometimes the Chevrolet direct tire pressure monitoring system needs to be rebooted. Luckily, restarting your TPMS system is a fairly simple process. Here’s how to do it below.
First, insert your key and turn it to the “on” position without actually starting your vehicle. Next, you’ll press and hold the TPMS reset button located below the steering wheel until the tire pressure light flashes three times, and then let go. Start the car and wait about 20 minutes for the tire pressure sensor to refresh.
If the TPMS light is still illuminated after resetting it, you should bring your Cruze to your local Chevrolet dealership and service center or mechanic to have to diagnose the problem. It may be a simple electrical issue but it’s better safe than sorry.
