How often to change oil on a Honda GX390
Honda recommends an oil change every 100 hours for conventional oil. This can be hard to gauge, so an alternate benchmark is to change the oil every six months to ensure your engine oil is clean.
However, synthetic oil has a longer service life, so you can wait longer between oil changes.

How to change your oil and oil filter
When doing an oil change, you will need a 10 mm box end wrench, drain pan, and funnel. You will also need a replacement filter and two quarts of premium 10W-30 engine oil.
Before changing the oil, run the engine until it reaches the normal operating temperature so that it can drain quickly. Once the oil is warmed up, turn off the engine and follow these steps:
- Place the drain pan under the engine
- Remove the oil fill cap
- Remove the oil drain bolt and sealing washer
- Allow the old oil to drain completely into the drain pan
- Reinstall the oil drain bolt with a new washer and tighten it to 17 lb-ft
- Using a funnel, refill the engine with new oil until it begins to run out of the oil filler neck
- Replace the fill cap
