background
The recommended Acura TSX power steering fluid is Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid #08206-9002. Models made after 2008, though, use an electric power steering system and don’t require fluid at all.
The Acura TSX has a reputation for being exceptionally reliable. If you are looking to change your power steering fluid, you probably have a pretty old TSX and can attest to that. Even the most reliable car needs regular care. Replacing its power steering fluid is one essential part of that care, but since the change interval is so long, it's easy to forget.

What type of power steering fluid does the Acura TSX use?

Acura has been using electronic power steering in the TSX since 2009, so if you have a newer model TSX you don’t need to worry about replacing your power steering fluid. For models built before 2009, though, the recommended power steering fluid is Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid #08206-9002.
It is recommended to try to stick with the manufacturer’s recommended fluid to avoid unnecessary wear on your vehicle. If you can’t find it, then aftermarket power steering fluid will work, but make sure it meets the same quality requirements and is designed for Asian vehicles.
To help you with your search, start with these options:

How to change the power steering fluid on an Acura TSX

Taking your Acura to the shop for a power steering fluid change will typically cost upwards of $100. Fortunately, if you want to save some money, you can do it yourself at home for just the cost of clean fluid (about $20).
For this DIY service, you’ll need a few tools:
  • A pump device–anything that can pump fluid out of the tank will work, like a vacuum pump, large syringe, turkey baster, or soap dispenser pump
  • Fresh power steering fluid
  • Paper towel
  • Jack and jack stands (optional)
  • A funnel (also optional)
Step 1: Pop the hood, locate the power steering fluid reservoir and remove the fill cap.
Step 2: Pump out as much fluid as possible.
Step 3: Refill the reservoir with clean fluid halfway between the minimum and maximum fill lines and replace the fill cap.
Step 4: Start the car and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock–left and right as far as possible–a handful of times to bleed the system. Putting your car up on jack stands will help make this step easier.
Step 5: Double-check the fluid level and refill if necessary.
If you want to go the extra mile you can do a full system flush by locating the power steering fluid return line, disconnecting it with a pair of pliers, and allowing the system to drain completely.
And if you do this, you’ll want to make sure to bleed the lines very well after the initial refill. Turn the steering wheel all the way from lock to lock for a few minutes, then refill the reservoir as necessary.

What is the power steering fluid change interval for an Acura TSX?

Aim to change your power steering fluid every 50,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first.
It is generally a good idea to check the state of your power steering fluid between changes to look for any signs that your fluid is contaminated or leaking:
  • Difficulty turning the steering wheel
  • Loose feeling steering
  • Groaning sounds when you turn
  • Brown or black fluid in your reservoir, clean power steering fluid should be a transparent pink or amber
