To avoid damaging your vehicle's engine, you can’t use just any old oil. The 2019 Ford F150 requires oil of grade 5W-20, as recommended by Ford themselves. This grading indicates the oil's viscosity at both the cold start and the engine's normal operating temperature.
As a result, 5W-20 has a low viscosity level, “5”, at the engine's cold start temperature—also denoted by the W for "winter." How to change your oil and oil filter
When the time comes for an oil change, gather the following
car tools and supplies
: a socket wrench, a drain pan, a filter wrench, a new oil filter, and your new oil.First, bring your engine up to the average working temperature. You can take a fast lap around the neighborhood or let your car idle for 5 minutes, shut it off, and park on level ground. Then take the following steps:
- Take off the oil fill cap
- Remove the oil drain bolt and washer from beneath the engine
- After taking off the old oil filter, let the oil drain
- Install the new filter
- Put a new washer on the oil drain bolt, and tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
- Replace the fill cap and add new oil to the engine
Check your oil dipstick to ensure the correct amount of oil was added, double-check for any leaks, and you're done!
All you have to do now is clean up. Put the dirty oil in a sealable container and take it to your local recycling center. Make sure that no oil is dumped on the ground or in your trash. Even spilling a few quarts of oil is incredibly dangerous for the environment.
