How big is a 2017 Hyundai Elantra battery?

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra was manufactured with three different powertrains. The 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder Elantras use the same OE Group Size 98R/H6 AGM battery, but the sportier 1.6-liter turbo uses a 97R/H5 battery.
Once you determine your battery size, the next thing to figure out is the cold cranking amps (CCAs). Your Elantra will require a base number of CCAs to turn over, but those who live in colder climates can increase the CCAs to ensure a good start even on the coldest days. That’s why you’ll see the same size battery with a variety of CCA estimates available at auto parts stores.
For example, here are the batteries AutoZone recommends for a
2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport
:
  • 650 CCAs: H5-EFB or H5-DLG battery
  • 550 CCAs: H5-DL battery
  • 525 CCAs: H5-VL battery
For
2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco
,
Limited
,
SE
, and Value Edition sedans, AutoZone has these batteries to recommend:
  • 760 CCAs: 48H6 battery
  • 800 CCAs: DH6 battery
  • 723 CCAs: 48-720T battery
If you’re unsure which battery is in your Hyundai or which type you should replace it with, a simple way to find out is to pop your hood. Your battery will have a label on it with the type, size, and CCA amount printed on it. You can also check the battery section of your Elantra’s owner’s manual.

2017 Hyundai Elantra battery life

Internal combustion engine vehicles are designed to return charge to the battery as they run via the engine’s alternator. Your Elantra will use a good deal of your battery’s charge to start. It’s your alternator’s job to help shoulder the burden of running your Elantra’s electric components and also to create DC voltage to recharge your battery for the next start-up.
However, just like most parts of your car, your battery will wear out eventually. Most car experts agree it’s a good idea to replace your car battery every four to five years. That said, there are a number of circumstances that could dictate changing the battery sooner. For example, if you live in a particularly cold climate or your driving habits cause you to start and turn off your car more than average, you may run through your battery’s life more quickly than normal.
The variable nature of battery life is a major reason why it’s a good idea to regularly test your car battery to ensure it doesn’t fail you unexpectedly. You should also keep an eye out for signs your battery is failing, such as:
  • The car being slow to start
  • The engine cranking or clicking but not starting
  • Dash lights working, but the car not starting
  • Headlights or interior lights being dimmer than usual
  • Battery requires jumping and/or charging
  • Corrosion or film on battery terminals

How to keep your 2017 Hyundai Elantra battery healthy

Performing regular battery maintenance is just one step you can take to help prolong the life of your Hyundai’s battery. Here are some others:
  • Start and drive your car. As we already noted, your car’s battery gets recharged anytime your engine is running. That means if your car is left parked in a garage for weeks at a time, it could run out more quickly. Start your car and drive it around for at least 15 minutes at a time, at least once a week to ensure your battery keeps a solid charge.
  • Limit short rides. Try to ensure your drives last for at least 15 minutes or more to allow your alternator enough time to fully recharge your battery.
  • Ensure your battery is tightly fastened. If your battery isn’t properly secured, it could become damaged. Check regularly to ensure that it’s tightly strapped into the mounting bracket and that the cables are firmly attached to the terminals.
  • Don’t forget to turn your lights off. A lot of newer cars have us covered with automatic headlights, but if you’re driving an older vehicle or one not equipped with automatic features, be sure you turn off your lights every time you turn off your car.
  • Avoid idling for extended periods. Just having your car on isn’t the most effective way to charge your battery. Extended periods of idling can actually wear your car battery down, so avoid them if you can.
  • Care for your whole car. Other issues with your car’s electrical system can cause battery depletion, so don’t neglect its necessary

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
