2013 Buick Enclave engine oil capacity

Under the hood of a 2013 Buick Enclave, you’ll find a 3.6-liter V6 engine with an oil capacity of 6.4 quarts or 6 liters. In case the “3.6-liter” part is throwing you off, that’s your engine’s displacement volume—not to be confused with your engine’s oil capacity of six quarts.

What kind of oil does a 2013 Buick Enclave need?

If you end up pouring the wrong oil into your engine, you could possibly cause severe damage to your Enclave. That’s why we can’t stress enough how vital it is to determine the correct oil for your engine if you don’t already know. Buick recommends using a fully synthetic 5W-30 engine oil with a dexos1® certification to ensure your engine remains in perfect form.
Okay, but what do these characters even mean? Great question!
The label tells you the oil’s viscosity or thickness. The number 5 indicates that the oil has a low viscosity at 0°F while the letter “W” stands for winter. And the number 30 specifies that it can withstand extreme temperatures up to 212°F.
Basically, you need to look for an engine oil with those ratings so it can easily handle working in cold weather conditions.

How often to change the oil on a 2013 Buick Enclave

So you’ve determined your 2013 Enclave’s oil capacity and the best engine oils to use—now what? It’s time to finally
change your oil and filter
If you’re using fully synthetic oil as recommended by Buick, experts suggest changing your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. But if you decide to go with conventional oil, you’ll need to change your oil out more frequently about every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. But considering this is a long range between oil changes, you should still check your oil levels on a monthly basis at least.
But how will you know what to look for if it's time to change your oil? Keep an eye out for the following warning signs:
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance
  • Pungent oil, smoke, or burning smells
  • The engine oil becomes noticeably dirty and darker in color
  • The engine oil feels coarse or gritty
  • Unusual noises
    coming from your engine

How to change your oil and oil filter

The time has come—let’s change your oil! But first, you’ll need to gather up these handy tools:
  • 6.4 quarts of fully synthetic 5W-30 engine oil
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement oil filter
  • Socket wrench
Next, you’ll want to make sure you warm up your engine so it can reach a normal operating temperature. This should only take a few minutes and then you can turn Enclave off again.
Once you’re ready, proceed by following these steps:
  • Prop the hood open and detach the oil cap
  • Set the drain pan under the engine and unscrew the oil drain bolt and washer in order to let the old oil will drain out
  • Remove the old oil filter and let the old oil drain all the way
  • Once the old oil is drained, install the new filter
  • Remove the oil drain plug, add the new washer, and then tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Pour new oil into the engine and use a dipstick to make certain you poured in enough
  • Put the oil cap back on, turn your vehicle on, and look out for leaks
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
If you don’t see the
oil pressure light
on your dashboard anymore, that means you successfully changed the oil on your 2013 Buick Enclave. Oh, and don’t forget to clean up afterward!
