2011 Toyota Sienna engine oil capacity

The 2011 Toyota Sienna has an engine oil capacity of 6.4 quarts or 6.1 liters. Engine oil is typically sold by the quart, so for each oil change, you’ll want to buy 7 quarts in order to make sure you have enough.

What kind of oil does a 2011 Toyota Sienna need?

Before you rush out and buy the first type of engine oil that you see, however, you need to know exactly what type of engine oil your Sienna needs—not all engine oils are the same, and using the wrong kind can cause some serious problems.
For a 2011 Toyota Sienna, you’ll need to use SAE fully synthetic engine oil with a viscosity rating of 0W-20.
If you’re not familiar with viscosity ratings, it’s pretty simple. Basically, viscosity is a measure of how thick an oil is at different temperatures. The first number with the “W” beside it describes the oil’s viscosity at 0°F. The second number describes the oil’s viscosity at 212°F
If you live in a particularly cold area, you may want to consider using oil with 5W-20 viscosity instead—but keep in mind that when your engine is running, your oil will almost always be between 195°F and 220°F.
Why mess with a classic? Toyota actually makes its own engine oil, which is what comes standard in the vehicle when it’s new. Obviously, Toyota recommends using its Toyota Genuine SAE 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil for your Sienna.

How often to change the oil in a 2011 Toyota Sienna

Now that you know what type of oil you need, and how much of it to use, it’s time to figure out how often you should
change the oil
in your 2011 Toyota Sienna.
In general, you should expect to need an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Some drivers have trouble remembering to keep track of their mileage though, so it can often be easier to simply change your oil every six months

Of course, that’s just the regular interval—sometimes, you might need to change your oil early. You should be keeping a constant eye on your oil. A good rule of thumb is to check it every other time that you get gas, or just once a month
If you notice any of these symptoms while driving or checking your oil, you’ll know that it’s time for an engine oil change:

How to change your oil and oil filter

When the time does come for you to change the engine oil in your 2011 Toyota Sienna, make sure that you have a socket wrench, a filter wrench, a drain pan, a replacement oil filter, and seven quarts of fresh fully-synthetic motor oil.
Once you have everything that you need, start the Sienna’s engine. Let it run for about 5-10 minutes until the engine reaches normal operating temperature. Then, shut off the engine and follow these steps:
  • Pop the hood and prop it open.
  • Locate and remove the oil fill cap.
  • Lying on the ground and facing up, scoot under the engine bay.
  • Locate and remove the oil drain bolt—when you do, the old oil will begin draining out. So, have your drain pan in place and ready.
  • While the old oil is draining, use the filter wrench to remove the old filter. Then allow the oil to continue draining.
  • Once the old oil is completely emptied, install the new filter.
  • Replace the oil drain bolt and tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
  • Refill the engine using fresh engine oil
  • Replace the oil fill cap
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Once that’s all done, you just need to let the Sienna run for a while to make sure there are no leaks. Other than that, all that’s left is to place the old oil into a sealed container and take it to a nearby recycling center.
