background
There is an oil capacity of 6.1 quarts or roughly 5.8 liters in the 2007 Toyota Avalon. Your best bet, according to Toyota, is to use Toyota Genuine Motor oil with an SAE 5W-30 viscosity rating, or an API-certified equivalent.
Although mostly unchanged for the 2007 model year, Edmunds describes the 2007 Toyota Avalon as a luxury sedan without the luxury badge—and it’s easy to see why. A large sedan, with a V6 that fetches about 268 hp along with several luxury-themed features, the Avalon was a good investment for its original $40,000 price tag. Whatever your reason for owning a Toyota Avalon, one thing is for certain—keeping up with regular maintenance is an important part of making the most out of this sedan.
Oil maintenance makes up a significant aspect of this, and regularly checking your oil levels, and changing your oil and filter when the time comes can make the difference between good and bad performance. This

guide will tell you more about the 2007 Avalon’s oil capacity—and how you may be able to do an oil change on your own.

2007 Toyota Avalon oil capacity

The 2007 Toyota Avalon has an oil capacity of 6.1 quarts (5.8 liters), when counting the oil filter’s capacity as well.
Keep in mind, you should be checking your engine oil levels frequently as well, and correcting as needed. Toyota actually recommends you do this at every time you refuel.

What kind of oil does a 2007 Toyota Avalon need?

Toyota uses Toyota Genuine Motor Oil in the 2007 Avalon and recommends you use this. You don’t have to worry if you don’t have access to it—any API-certified SAE 5W-30 engine oil can be used in its place. If SAE 5W-30 oil isn’t available, Toyota says you can use SAE 10W-30 oil temporarily, but this should be replaced with the correctly graded oil at the next oil change.
That may be a lot of information to take in, so let’s break it down. API stands for American Petroleum Institute, which is just the body that certifies the oil. SAE is a similar organization that denotes the viscosity rating of the oil.
Viscosity is what is represented by the 5W-30 rating. The number on the left of the W represents how well the oil flows in cold temperatures, with the number on the right showing the opposite—how well the oil flows in warm temperatures.
As stated above, Toyota recommends using Genuine Toyota Motor Oil. If you can’t find any, we’ve included some alternatives for you:

How often to change the oil on a 2007 Toyota Avalon

Toyota has an engine oil replacement reminder light for 2007 Avalons that were sold in the US. It’ll start blinking when you start your vehicle after you reach 4,500 miles of driving, and remain permanently on after you reach 5,000 miles. Once the light is on permanently, Toyota recommends you change your oil at the earliest opportunity.
If you don’t have the reminder light, it’s a good idea to change the oil every 5,000 to 7,000 miles if you’re using modern lubricants.
Checking your oil is also important when determining whether you’re due for a change or not. If you notice that the oil is discolored on the dipstick, it may mean that it is time for an oil change.
You should also watch out for the following signs that you may need an oil change:
  • Your check engine oil light is on
  • You notice a drop in fuel efficiency (more gas than usual is needed for routine trips)
  • Consistently stalling or overheating engine

How to change your oil and oil filter

You can do your own oil change if you want to save a trip to the mechanic—or save the
cost of an oil change
that’s professionally done. It is a little difficult and technical, so having some help is a good idea if it’s your first time changing your oil.
You should try to have the following items on hand:
  • A Jack and jack stand to raise your car
  • A drain bolt wrench
  • An oil filter-removal wrench (this is a specialized wrench available at most dealers)
  • A filter and drain pan to catch the old oil
Don’t forget to have at least 6.1 quarts of your chosen engine oil. A pair of gloves and a funnel may also make the process easier for you.
First, park your 2007 Avalon on a level surface, and then follow these steps:
  1. Turn on the ignition and let your engine reach a normal operating temperature—which typically takes about five minutes.
  2. Turn off the ignition and wait a few minutes.
  3. Raise the car up using a floor jack and jack stand.
  4. Pop open the hood and remove the oil fill cap.
  5. Remove the drain plug using the wrench—make sure to put a drain pan underneath beforehand and let the oil drain into the pan completely.
  6. Using the oil filter wrench, loosen the oil filter and remove it with the hand. Keep your drain pan handy to catch the oil under the filter too.
  7. Screw in the new oil filter and drain plug using the respective wrenches.
  8. Refill the engine oil through the filler opening and securely install the cap.
  9. Get rid of the waste oil safely, according to local regulations.
After that, lower your car and start the engine again so you check to see if there’s any leakage anywhere. After that, it won’t hurt to double check your oil levels to see that you didn’t over or under fill. If there’s less oil than needed, just add some more. If you’ve added too much, you may need to visit a dealer to get rid of the excess oil.
And that’s it! That’s how you successfully perform an oil change by yourself—-enjoy feeling accomplished and knowing that you saved the money you’d have to pay to have someone else do it for you.
