The most common 2016 Audi A6 problems

Even superbly-built automobiles have problems crop up every now and then, and the 2016 A6 is, unfortunately, no exception.

Passenger airbag

The 2016 A6 was recalled due to the passenger airbag improperly deploying. The reason for the malfunction stemmed from wear and tear on a body-sensing mat within the front passenger seat. This stress would cause the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) control module to malfunction.
Due to this problem, the front passenger airbag may not properly deploy during a crash, potentially leading to a serious injury or worse.
While the airbag issue represented a potentially serious problem, the good thing is it was reported only seven times—but that was out of 30 total complaints for the 2016 A6.

Auxiliary heater overheat

A second serious issue with the 2016 Audi A6 involved the potential overheating of the auxiliary heater connector. Audi suspects an inordinate amount of resistance against the auxiliary heater electrical connection, stemming from improper installation, posed a risk of the
car overheating
and fire.
Four of the complaints made to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (
NHTSA
) involved this electrical issue.

Improperly-welded fuel rails

A third major problem with the 2016 Audi A6 involved the risk of a fuel leak due to improperly-welded fuel rails. In the A6, it was determined that the left and right fuel rails were potential fuel leak sources. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source presents a major fire risk.

Is the 2016 Audi A6 reliable?

In light of these problems, you’d be smart to wonder if the Audi A6 is a reliable vehicle. Well, the experts are split on this question.
RepairPal rates the 2016 Audi A6 as average in terms of reliability, giving it just a 3.5/5 rating. On the other hand, J.D. Power gave the 2016 A6 a solid score of 83/100.
In terms of average maintenance costs, RepairPal places an estimate of $913 per year for the 2016 A6. That’s significantly more than the average passenger car, but considering the A6 is a luxury import, the high average yearly maintenance cost shouldn’t be too surprising.
