Lexus ES overview

There are those who say the Lexus ES is one of the best-looking cars ever made. But where it makes its money is with its strong optional V6 engine, buttery-soft upholstery, and extra-roomy interior. And with a combined fuel economy of 27 mpg, it stacks up well against others in the space.
The Lexus ES isn’t necessarily the best sports sedan on the market—the
Acura TLX
has an available 9-speed transmission, which the Lexus ES does not; the
Jaguar XF
has all-wheel drive available across all of its trim levels, while the Lexus ES only has front-wheel drive; and the
Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
is cheaper than the Lexus ES hybrid version.
But while there are plenty of other options out there, the Lexus ES is a rock-solid, stand-out vehicle with many benefits.

What’s special about the Special Edition?

The Lexus ES 350 F-Sport Black Line Special Edition is just a sight to behold. While it shares quite a few of the looks and features of its Lexus ES brethren, it stands out with a different type of rear spoiler, black outside mirrors, and 19-inch split-five-spoke alloy wheels
It also comes with a moveable meter that the driver can configure to make the suspension stiffer so it falls just below something you might drive on an F1 circuit. But if you just want to drive down the freeway, there is a setting for “Comfort” that does exactly what it says it’s going to do: drive in comfort.
Once you get past those features, you’re not left with much that truly differentiates it from the lower trim levels. For these goodies, you will pay just under $1,000 more than the regular F-Sport, while adding about $7,000 up from the ES model, which can be tough to swallow.

Lexus ES 350 F-Sport Black Line Special Edition vs. ES

This Special Edition isn’t going to bring a lot of value to the party if you’re looking at the costs associated with it. As we mentioned above, it’s going to cost nearly $7,000 more if you want to jump up from the ES trim, which includes:
  • Spacious cabin
  • LED exterior lighting
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Keyless ignition
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
Should you stick with the ES? Maybe. If you value quality, you’re going to be happy with either model. But the ES is a significantly cheaper alternative and, after all, it’s still a Lexus.
The blackout features of the F-Sport Black Line Special Edition are pretty nifty. And if you’re considering that version, we don’t think the cost is going to sway you. But again, other than a different driving mode and upgraded upholstery, there isn’t a whole lot of difference between the two versions.
