background
Coupes aren’t necessarily practical, but they sure are fun to drive. The 2016 Audi A5 Coupe is just that. For a starting price of about $41,500, it boasts an elegant cabin, excellent handling, and an adorable exterior, but its back seats are predictably cramped and its tech features feel outdated.
Back in the day, those who wanted a fuel-efficient vehicle had to opt for something small, but today, hybrid, PHEV, and EV technology has turned once-gas-guzzlers into economical monsters. As a result, the coupe, a relatively impractical vehicle style for anyone who isn’t single, is becoming less and less popular.
But there are still plenty of luxury car owners who invest in coupes as second vehicles, and Audi aficionados love the A5 Coupe as a summer fun car. Here to thoroughly review this classic German two-door is

Small and stylish: the 2016 Audi A5 Coupe

When it comes to luxury coupes, the 2016 Audi A5 is a great option, offering drivers a refined and sporty driving experience for a starting price of $41,500.
Upgrading to the racier S5 model offers a more powerful engine for $54,000. On either option, you’ll get standard all-wheel drive and your choice of a 6-speed automatic or an 8-speed automatic with Tiptronic manual control.
A soft-top convertible version is available, making the 2016 A5 Coupe the ideal summer car.
The A5’s crisp interior styling combines form and function. You’ll quickly learn the user-friendly controls even if you’ve never owned an Audi before.

Is the 2016 Audi A5 Coupe comfortable?

The 2016 Audi A5 Coupe seats up to four passengers. The front seats are quite easy to get in and out of and offer excellent lumbar support. Leather upholstery feels smooth and expensive, and heat and ventilation come standard.
The back seat is quite cramped, which is to be expected with any car of this size. Backseat passengers can expect 31.7 inches of legroom. There’s not much headroom either, so the back seat is best left for children or smaller adults.

Is the 2016 Audi A5 Coupe reliable?

The 2016 Audi A5 coupe earned an 87/100 predicted reliability score from J.D. Power, which is much higher than some newer A5 Coupe models. J.D. Power also assigned a reliability rating of 3.5/5 to the 2016 model, which is slightly above average for a used car.
The benefit of buying a used vehicle is being able to evaluate how reliable it is before purchasing it. Of course,
Audis are fairly reliable vehicles in general
, so a used A5 Coupe is likely a safe purchase.

Is the 2016 Audi A5 Coupe safe?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA
) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) don’t perform crash tests on many luxury vehicles, for the simple reason that doing so would be incredibly expensive.
With that said, we can evaluate the Audi A5 Coupe’s safety by comparing its features to other models in its class, and, unfortunately, the 2016 A5 Coupe doesn’t quite measure up.
Front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and blind spot monitoring are only available on the Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels, while adaptive cruise control only comes on the S5 Prestige.

2016 Audi A5 Coupe trim levels

The 2016 Audi A5 is available with a  2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that offers 220 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. For more oomph, you can upgrade to the R5, which is powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine offering 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.
The A5 is available in Premium and
Premium Plus
trim levels, while the R5 can be purchased in Premium Plus or Prestige.
The A5 Premium includes a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, Bluetooth, satellite radio, leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats. Proximity keyless entry is available as an optional add-on.
Upgrading to the A5 Premium Plus adds keyless entry, plus a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and only costs a few hundred dollars more than the base trim.
