Chevy Spark enthusiasts will be disappointed this August when
Chevrolet
discontinues production on this small, affordable hatchback. Fans praise its easy urban-dweller parking abilities and funky colors, including a pink Chevy Spark!
Chevrolet is not planning to offer a similar replacement for the Spark, so you only have a few more months to purchase one before we say goodbye forever. Let’s take a quick look back at the Chevy Spark.

Last version in 2022

The biggest selling points for this little hatchback are its small size, low price and fuel economy. The latest model of the Chevrolet Spark is not much different than the 2021 version, although there is a new rich red crimson exterior color offered. The base models start just under $14,000 and get around 33 mpg overall and 44 mpg on the highway.
Overwhelmingly, reviewers praise the Spark for its ease of getting in and out of parking spots in tight urban areas.
The Spark is good on corners, comes standard with an infotainment screen, backup camera, USB port, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, and if you fold the rear seats down, it offers a decent amount of cargo space for such a small car.
Most notably, the Spark is the cheapest car in the United States. Chevrolet’s idea in releasing this car originally was to appeal to college students, city dwellers or
teen drivers
needing an affordable car.
The Spark isn't known to be a smooth, quiet ride by any means, and it takes 12 seconds to go 0-60 mph with only 98 hp from a 1.4L engine. While the front seats offer decent seating options, the rear seats are tiny. So, if you plan to take long road trips on the interstate, this may not be the car for you. But, as
Consumer Reports
says, “As a cheap runabout to park at the local train station, it may be just the thing.”
Some criticisms of the Spark are that the base models are very basic with no power windows or cruise control. So, once you upgrade a bit for these features, or for collision warnings, auto braking and lane departure warnings, you aren’t really paying that much less than other more substantial cars.
Consumer Reports went as far to say that, “...as a first car for a college student or a downtown dweller, we'd sleep better at night if you opted for a more substantial car, even if it's second hand.”

Spark in the USA

Chevrolet debuted the Spark in the USA in 2013. Prior to that, it had been sold overseas in Europe and Asia since 1998. It was originally manufactured by Daewoo, but now is produced by GM South Korea.
The original 2013 Spark was priced starting around $12,000. It featured a 5-speed transmission with 84 hp coming from a 1.2L engine. It was a front-wheel drive vehicle with ABS and traction control, air conditioning and AM/FM stereo. It was a basic little hatchback to fill the “tiny car” market for Chevrolet.
The Spark sold quickly in America. It offered great fuel economy, affordable prices, good reliability and bold colors that appealed to young drivers. The funky colors over the years have included colors such as cayenne orange, jalapeño green, nitro yellow, raspberry, and passion fruit. It sounds like a spicy fruit salad!
Perhaps one of the most talked about colors was the 2013 techno pink Chevy Spark.

Techno Pink 2013 Chevy Spark

We don’t see many pink cars, which made the Techno Pink Spark eye-catching, and fun to drive for those drivers who enjoy turning heads. Zipping in and out of tiny urban parking spots in a Barbie pink car does hold a certain appeal, does it not? Unfortunately, the tiny Spark is going the way of the dinosaur.
But, you can still grab a new 2022 Spark for a few more months!
Pink or not, your car needs car insurance.
