With a five decade-long production run,
Chevrolet
clearly has the recipe for building a successful sports car. The 2022 C8 Corvette provides buyers with a powerful mid-engine two-seater at an affordable price. As in, you can have the $300,000 Ferrari look for just $62,000 instead.
In terms of performance, critics agree that this supercar is worthy of our attention. However, actual owners have some points of contention to communicate.

What is the 2022 C8 Corvette made of?

You’ll find a 6.2-liter V8 under the hood, or rather, behind the cabin. Paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, it’s capable of 490 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Car and Driver
reports an impressive 0 to 60 mph time of 2.8 seconds.
Those who opt for the recommended Z51 package will gain an extra 5 hp, aggressive brakes, electronic limited-slip rear differential, and dual-mode performance exhaust.
There are three trim levels available, in addition to coupe or convertible options. Buyers wanting something even more exclusive can invest in the limited edition racing championship C8.R package. Chevrolet is only building 1,000 units with this unique exterior paint and cabin scheme.
The futuristic interior in the 2022 C8 Corvette includes real metal trim and leather, imitation suede, and a stitched headliner. There’s a squared-off steering wheel, 12.0-inch gauge display, and angled infotainment system, all designed with a focus on the driver.

But is it reliable?

The short answer is no, according to
Consumer Reports
. It scored a one out of five for predicted reliability due to a powertrain recall. Competitors like the Toyota Supra and Porsche 718 Boxster scored much higher in this category. Thankfully, Chevrolet’s warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles. But, ongoing supply chain issues and production delays are unfavorable.
Noise canceling capabilities are average, but this may not bother car enthusiasts too much.
While higher trim levels do come with certain safety features like blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alerts, none of them are standard in the base model. Lack of visibility was also a concern for
MotorBiscuit
. There is no back window and the short windshield is not ideal for taller drivers.
You’ll find small trunks in the front and rear of the vehicle, but like any supercar, the 2022 C8 Corvette is not renowned for its cargo space. The absence of a manual gearbox is also disappointing, but the automatic shifting is smooth and the driver can control the timing in manual mode.

Is it worth it?

As expected, fuel economy remains abysmal while city driving. However, when driven carefully on the highway, the 2022 C8 Corvette can achieve an impressive 27 mpg. This supercar can easily become your favorite daily driver. It even delivers a surprisingly smooth ride over rough roads.
