For an extra $1,452, buyers of the 2023 Honda Civic can add the Honda Performance Development (HPD) Package to give their ride a motorsport vibe. But the Package won’t do much to enhance the performance of the vehicle—so whether it’s worth the price or not is a personal decision.
For 2023, Honda discontinued their entry-level LX trim in favor of making the Civic Sport the new base model. That means drivers get all the features of the Sport in a less expensive package. As an added bonus, buyers can also choose to add the optional HPD Package to their entry-level Civic—an appearance-enhancing bundle of additional features.
Here’s what to know about this optional package before hitting the dealership.

The Honda Civic HPD Package is an optional package available on the Sport
and EX
trims. The letters “HPD” stand for “Honda Performance Development.” The primary purpose of this package is to enhance the appearance of your vehicle with a custom, high-performance look. What’s included
The HPD Package includes the addition of five upgrades geared toward giving your Honda Civic a motorsport-inspired look:
HPD™ Front Underbody Spoiler
HPD™ Rear Underbody Spoiler
HPD™ Side Underbody Spoilers
What it does
Simply put, this package is all about your Honda Civic’s appearance. While the HPD Package derives its name from the Honda team focused on developing race cars and engines, adding this package to your Civic won’t actually make your car faster.
In fact, your engine performance won’t be impacted at all—rather, the HPD Package simply lends a sleeker look to your sedan.
That being said, this performance package does enhance your Civic’s speed with the addition of multiple spoilers across the vehicle's body. Spoilers change the way air flows around your vehicle and can optimize your car’s performance by reducing “drag” as you drive.
Plus, the addition of the HPD emblem gives your Civic a seriously high-end look.

How much is a 2023 Civic HPD Package?
Whether you’re opting for the Sport or EX trim, the Honda Civic HPD Package costs $1,452. Assuming you don’t add any other optionals to your purchase, you can expect the addition of this package to increase your bottom line to $26,500 (on the Sport) or $27,900 (on the EX).
Keep in mind, the HPD Package is not available for the Touring
trim. Below, we’ve included the starting price for each trim level. 2023 Honda Civic trim pricing

Is the HPD Package worth it?
Whether or not the HPD Package is worth it to you will depend on your priorities. As an appearance-based package, it doesn’t offer much in the way of comfort or technology features—so if you’re someone who enjoys creature comforts, your money may be better spent on alternative add-ons.
But if you’re pursuing the Civic for its performance capacities, this package could be the perfect finishing touch. Even on top of the starting MSRP for the Sport or EX trims, adding the HPD Package will run you less money than splurging on the top-level Touring or performance-focused Si trims.
So if you’re craving that extra boost of power, the HPD Package could be the perfect compromise between performance and price.
HPD Package vs. Protection Package
Aside from the HPD Package, Honda offers a number of other optional packages for the 2023 Civic. One such option is the Protection Package, which boosts your Civic’s security with features like:
The purpose of the Protection Package is to reduce wear and tear on your Civic over time—so it’s a great addition for drivers who typically see rough road conditions or higher annual mileage. In addition to protecting your Civic against the elements, it may also have the added bonus of helping lower your car insurance costs
, since some providers offer discounts based on the safety and security features in your vehicle. Adding the Protection Package to your Honda Civic will cost just $300, and—unlike the HPD Package—it’s available for the Touring trim as well as the Sport and EX models.
HPD Package vs. All-Season Protection Package I & II
There are two additional packages available for the 2023 Honda Civic: the All-Season Protection Package I and the All-Season Protection Package II. Both packages share the same basic features—including all-season floor mats and a trunk tray—but they differ on a couple of extras.
Namely, Protection Package I adds a splash guard set to the mix, while Protection Package II swaps the splash guard for wheel locks. In this way, both All-Season Protection Packages pull from the standard Protection Package discussed above—but they divvy out the features differently—and throw in floor mats for good measure.
The cost of the All-Season Protection Package II is just $70 more than the standard Protection Package, adding $370 to your bottom line. Surprisingly, the All-Season Protection Package I is more expensive, with a price tag of $420.

The bottom line
If you’re looking to up your Civic’s cool factor and add a little extra oomph to its on-road performance, the HPD Package could be the perfect compromise. But with a price tag of over $1,000 for an appearance-based package, some buyers may not find it worth the cost.
