What does a quart of motor oil look like?

I’m about a quart short on motor oil, but I only have a gallon jug to pour from. I’m going to have to eyeball the fill, but I’m worried about adding too little or too much so I want to measure it out before pouring straight into the reservoir. What does a quart of motor oil look like?

A quart looks like just how it sounds—a quarter of a gallon! If your gallon jug of motor oil is full, you’ll want to pour out about one-fourth of it. But there’s an easier way to measure than simply eyeballing the fill—use your dipstick instead!
Each line on your car’s dipstick is spaced about a quart apart to make measuring motor oil easier. Look to the lines on your dipstick to judge how many quarts are in your reservoir, and how much motor oil you pour!
