How often should I drive my diesel truck?

I just got a Ford F-350 with turbo diesel to help me with some bigger hauls in my side hustle. My day job’s got me driving into town all week with my Prius, though. How often should I drive my truck? I’m worried that driving it each weekend isn’t enough.

That’s great that you’ve invested in a little extra support for your side hustle—true dedication right there! You don’t have to be too worried about your
Ford F-350
. Here are the general recommendations for how often to drive your diesel truck:
  • Once a month
  • At least 20 to 30 minutes each drive
Essentially, you’ll want to make sure your engine has time to get good and warm before you shut it down again for a lengthy period of time. Because diesel can build up more debris than gasoline, longer trips are encouraged.
Some diesel truck drivers may suggest that you try to get a 60-mile trip in each week—but as long as you aren’t flipping the ignition switch on and off immediately, your weekend hauling hustle should give your engine adequate time to warm up.
