How often do you change spark plugs in a Toyota Corolla?

I just bought a used Toyota with 45,000 miles on it. It runs great, but I am trying to make sure all the maintenance has been done. How often do the spark plugs need to be changed in a Toyota Corolla? Should that be done already?

Sticking to a
basic maintenance schedule
is one of the best things you can do to get the most miles out of your
used car
.
You should change the spark plugs in your
Toyota Corolla
every 60,000 miles, or when they show signs of failure. This service will cost around $150 bucks at a mechanic.
Spark plugs are responsible for igniting the air-fuel mixture inside your car’s engine, creating the chain reaction that generates the engine’s power. As part of your car’s routine maintenance, they should be changed out around every 5 years or 60,000 miles.
However, if your car is showing any of the following symptoms, you will want to get your spark plugs checked sooner.
  • Engine vibrations
  • Rough idling
  • Decrease in gas milage
  • Power loss or power surges
  • Takes longer to crank the engine when starting.
  • Check engine light is on
Properly functioning spark plugs are critical to the operation of your car. Without them, the air-fuel mixture does not ignite, and your engine can not create the combustion that it needs to power the engine.
