How much does an alternator weigh?

I think my alternator has gone bad and I want to try replacing it myself. But I have a bad back and can’t lift a lot of weight. How heavy is an alternator?

It’s never fun when your car
breaks down
, but you’re asking all the right questions.
The alternator in a standard road car usually weighs between 10-25 pounds. However, if you own a heavy duty truck (for example, one designed to have power tools run off of its engine) or an RV which runs numerous appliances, the alternator can weigh even more.
An alternator is part of your car’s electrical system that takes the motion of the engine and converts it into electrical power to charge your battery. Without an alternator, your car battery would never charge and would quickly shut off.
