How long does it take to change a transmission?

I dropped my car off at my local auto body shop for a transmission change, and they told me it would be ready in a few days. How long should I expect to wait for the process to be finished?

How long it takes to change a transmission will vary based on the make and model of your vehicle, but on average, it should take more than three or four days.
Most newer vehicles can change their transmission within a day or two, but some older models or finicky cars can take three to four days. 
Having the transmission replaced on your vehicle is a big (and expensive) job, so you’ll want to be sure that’s the problem before you rush to have it fixed. Transmissions undergo wear and tear the more you drive, but here are some signs to look out for that indicate you may need a transmission replacement:
