How do I put a Tesla in neutral?
What steps should I take to put my Tesla Model S in neutral? I can’t figure out where the control for it is. I know how to put it in drive and reverse, but where is the neutral function?

Tesla’s can be tricky cars to figure out—so try not to worry! You can put your Tesla in neutral by giving the gearshift a half pushso that it falls halfway between the Drive and Reverse options.
But if you need your Tesla to remain in neutral for an extended period, you’ll need to put it in Tow Mode. To do this:
- Shift into the parking gear and hold the brake.
- Access the screen menu.
- Click CONTROLS > SETTINGS > SERVICE & RESET > TOW MODE > ON.
- Your car should now be in tow mode!
If you need to turn off tow mode, access the screen menu and follow the same directions as above. But when you reach the Tow Mode menu, select OFF.
