Can you wash a car in the sun?
So, I was planning on washing my new car this afternoon, but my wife is telling me it’s too sunny, that I should wait for a cloudy day. Can you wash a car in the sun?

Car enthusiasts recommend not washing a car when it’s too sunny and hot. Why? Because the cleaning products may dry before you have the chance to rinse them off. If this happens, you’ll have to contend with taking off dried soap residue.
However, we can’t always coordinate our schedules with Mother Nature, so if you do have to wash your car when it’s very hot and sunny, follow these tips:
- Move into the shade on a hot day if possible.
- Wash one small section at a time—and then quickly rinse off the area.
- If you live in a part of the country where you’re going to have to wash your car in hot temperatures on a regular basis, look for cleaning products designed for use in hot weather.
At the other extreme, don’t wait until dark to wash your car—you’ll be bound to wake up in the morning with at least one streak of dried soap!
