Can you flat tow a Honda Element?
I have a 2011 Honda Element that my wife and I want to bring up to the RV park in October. Is it safe to flat tow it behind the RV?

Yes—you can safely flat tow your
Honda Element
behind a motorhome or RV. However, do not exceed speeds over 65 mph (100 km/h) to avoid damaging the 4WD system. When looking for a tow bar, ensure you purchase from a reputable manufacturer and installer and follow the manufacturer’s attachment instructions carefully.Once the tow bar is attached to your RV, here’s what you need to do to prepare your Element.
For a 5-speed manual transmission:
- Ensure the transmission is filled to the correct level.
- Release the parking brake.
- Shift the transmission into neutral.
- Leave the key in the ignition switch and the ignition switch in ACCESSORY—this ensures the steering wheel doesn’t lock.
- Ensure the radio and any items plugged into the accessory power sockets are turned OFF to avoid draining the battery.
For an automatic transmission:
Ensure the transmission is full of fluid
Do the following every day immediately before you begin towing:
- Start the engine.
- Press on the brake pedal.
- Shift the lever through all the positions (P, R, N, D, 2, 1). Then shift into D and then into N.
- Let the engine run for three minutes, then turn off the engine.
- Release the parking brake.
- Leave the ignition switch in ACCESSORY to ensure the steering wheel doesn’t lock.
- Ensure the radio and any items plugged into the accessory power sockets are turned OFF to avoid draining the battery.
