There has been a trend in recent years, which has seen automakers offer dark editions of their most popular models. We’re not just talking about a new paint job, but black trim, black grille, black wheels, tinted windows, black interior...you get the idea.

Audi, BMW, Chevy, Kia, Nissan, Ram, and even Rolls Royce (who are usually loath to join temporary fads), are currently offering blacked out versions of cars, most with the word "night" in the name.

Unsurprisingly for a brand that prides itself on "creating tomorrow" rather than following suit,

Ford

is going in the other direction. For 2022, a brand new "Ice White Package" will be available on the Mustang coupe and Mustang Mach-E electric SUV.

This isn’t just an equal and opposite reaction to an industry trend, but a throwback to retro fox body Mustangs, which got the whiteout treatment 30 years ago. Intrigued? Read on to learn more about the brand new Ice White Ford Mustang and Mach-E models.

The Ice White Mustang from Ford

Mustang marketing manager Jim Owen explains, "the new Mustang Ice White Edition could, just like the original '93 triple-white Fox-body feature Mustang, become one of the hot collectibles of future generations."

Time will tell if the 2022 models have the same long-lasting appeal as those built on the Fox platform, but based on the information provided by

, Mustang fans should be excited.

Both Ice White versions will have white body paint (obviously), in addition to white badges, "iced-out" tail lights, and a partly white grille. Black surrounds on the door panels, rims, and roof offer a nice contrast.

The Mustang will have "Oxford White" wheels, whereas the Mach-E sits atop aluminium wheels with white-painted pockets.

Inside, the Mustang will boast white leather inserts with black trim, black door panels, and a combination of white, silver and black on the dash. The interior leather used for the Ice White Mach-E is actually a very light grey, but appears white against the black upholstery.

As yet, there is no price for the sharp new package, but Ford have promised customers they can order this fall for a spring 2022 release date.

Adding to its exclusivity, the Ice White package will only be available on the GT and EcoBoost versions of the Mustang, and the premium trim version of the Mach-E SUV.
