Buying a car
can be a lengthy process, and an important part of that process is deciding if you like a car's appearance before deciding to purchase it. For example, many people probably don't want to drive one of the ugliest SUVs ever made.
One design choice that was once very popular in cars is the boxy look. Luckily, for those who like this design today, there are a few modern boxy cars to choose from.
The Kia Soul is a modern boxy car.

What happened to boxy cars?

reported, boxy cars were very popular back in the day. Indeed, cars like the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, which was one of the most popular cars from the 70s, was boxy. Of course, there were curvy cars back then, too, but it was clear that boxy cars were the popular option.
However, when European luxury automakers began making curvier cars, many people started associating curves with luxury. Then, when governments started putting fuel efficiency requirements on cars, automakers also started making curvier cars.
As such, curvy cars became the more popular option, and that's been true since the 1990s. However, there are still many boxy cars on the market. This just shows boxy cars are still appealing to some folks, and as such, a lot of automakers have a boxy car in their lineup.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class

As reported by
U.S. News
, one of the best boxy cars on the market is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. It's a $130,000 luxury SUV, and it's a clear counterexample to the trend of European luxury automakers making curvy cars.
The G-Class is very boxy, and it's also loaded with features, too. For example, it comes with a 416 horsepower engine, and it has a luxurious interior that's loaded with features. Plus, despite being a luxury SUV, it can off-road really well.

Another extremely boxy car, the Soul is on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to the G-Class. While the 2022 Kia Soul has plenty of features, it only starts at about $18,000, which is very affordable.
Not only that, but despite being a subcompact SUV, the Soul has a lot of room inside. In fact, with its seats folded down, it gets 62.1 cubic feet of space. That said, it's not going to be powerful, as it comes with a 147 horsepower engine.

Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler, on the other hand, is a boxy car that never really lost popularity. It's been a boxy car since its earliest days, and that's been true of most Jeeps, too. After all, the Jeeps that were used in World War II were quite boxy as well.
At a price tag of about $28,000, the Wrangler provides a lot of useful features. It starts with a 285 horsepower engine, but there's an option for a plug-in hybrid engine, too. Plus, with its seats folded down, it gets about 72.4 cubic feet of cargo room, which is plenty.
The best part about the Wrangler, however, is how it handles off-roading. The Wrangler, like every other Jeep, excels in this area. This makes the Wrangler a great option for adventurous people.
Folks who are thinking about buying one of the best boxy cars on the market should think the same way about their car insurance.
