background
The
Ford
Bronco faced some delays this year, but customers are finally starting to get their reserved vehicles delivered. The Bronco is Ford's answer to the Jeep Wrangler, a rugged SUV complete with off-roading equipment and removable doors. Those looking for better on-road performance can opt for the smaller Bronco Sport.
Even better, another Ford Bronco is set to debut in the near future. Preliminary information told us that it was a Bronco Warthog, but it has since been confirmed to be the Ford Bronco Raptor. What do we know so far about this highly-anticipated vehicle?
The new Ford Bronco Raptor will be even better equipped for off-roading and rough terrain.

Warthog vs. Raptor

According to
Road and Track
, the rumored 'Warthog' name has been applied to the upcoming Bronco since last year. Ford finally cleared up this misinformation at the 2021 Motor Bella Auto Show, stating that it will be known as the Bronco Raptor instead.
When it comes to Ford, the Raptor trim is typically an off-roading trim for the automaker's popular F-150 line. However, in addition to the Bronco, Ford is now extending the Raptor name to its midsize Ranger pickup.

What new features will the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor have?

The Ford Bronco is already a capable adventurer, but Ford will still outfit it with some unique equipment. For starters, it's expected to be powered by a turbocharged V6 engine bigger than both of the existing powertrain options. Inside the Ford Explorer, this engine makes 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.
It's also possible that the Ford Bronco Warthog will get the hybrid version of that engine, though nothing's been confirmed. The hybrid V6 produces 494 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are predicted to be paired with the existing ten-speed automatic gearbox.
Based on the prototypes that have been spotted, the Ford Bronco Raptor will probably have heightened performance—literally. It sits higher off the ground than any other Bronco, and has some aggressive fenders with Fox shocks. Spy photos have also showcased the beefy 37-inch tires that you can get on the F-150 Raptor.
Additionally, we can see a high-clearance front bumper and a new grille, which will undoubtedly make it more aggressive. We can also see stronger axles, new LED taillights, and a modular hardtop.
Rumors suggest that the Ford Bronco Raptor will be available in two trims. The base model will have the essential off-roading gear, but a luxury model will add some fancy extras. The latter trim could have an upgraded touchscreen, premium audio system, surround-view parking camera, and enhanced noise cancellation.
The new Raptor will have three new paint colors, including the fan-favorite Eruption Green. However, neither a manual transmission nor a two-door model has been confirmed.

When will the Bronco Raptor be released?

According to
MotorAuthority
, official trailers say that the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor should arrive next summer. Given that it's already experienced some delays, it will probably be a 2023 model instead.
No pricing has been revealed yet, but Road and Track tells us to brace for the most expensive Bronco yet. Still, even in the $60,000 neighborhood, it would be cheaper than the range-topping Jeep Wrangler. A higher Bronco Raptor trim equipped with the luxury package would add around $5,000 to the price tag.

A new car means new car insurance

Of course, for die-hard Bronco fans, the new Raptor's cost won't really be a deterrent. As we wait for the newest addition to the Bronco family, it's a better time than ever to shop for car insurance.
