An $8,000 Rolls-Royce car seat exists—and we have Cardi B to thank

Yes, it’s true: Cardi B and Offset paid $8,000 for a custom-built Rolls-Royce car seat for their daughter Kulture Kiari
In 2020, Offset shared a picture of the leather seat, which features Kulture’s name along with the distinctive Rolls-Royce double-R logo, on
Instagram
. “Bet it has peanut butter and jelly on it in 1 week,” he joked. (Luckily, Offset, it's super easy to
clean a car seat
!).
But if you were hoping to buy the same seat for your precious little ones, you’re out of luck. Just like the couple’s custom Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Kulture Kar Seat is one of a kind.

The best high-end car seats you can buy (if you’re not Offset)

Just because you don’t have $8,000 to drop on a car seat, that doesn’t mean you should be stuck with a cheap seat! After all, a car seat is the most valuable safety equipment for children in cars—and it’s possible to get a luxury seat with all the coolest features at a much more affordable price.
Without further ado, here are the best luxury car seats for the kids of mere mortals.

Nuna EXEC™ All-in-one in Riveted: $749.95

Crafted from the world’s finest merino wool over an all-steel frame, the
Nuna EXEC™
might just be the only car seat you’ll ever need to buy. After all, it’s designed for use as a rear-facing infant seat, a front-facing child seat, and a booster for older kids, meaning the same seat could serve your kid from birth to 12 years! With breathable panels, impact-absorbing foam, and Nuna’s Aeroflex™ side impact protection system, this is a car seat fit for a Rolls (or whatever car you drive).

Doona Midnight Edition: $650

Doona’s Midnight Edition
car seat and stroller travel system
proves that a good car seat doesn’t have to look clunky. Sleek black faux leather and anodized aluminum give this seat-and-stroller combo a sharp, modern look—and Doona’s infant seat gets a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)!
Oh, and if midnight’s not your style, don’t worry: the Doona infant seat comes in eight other colors, including the ultra-luxe Gold Limited Edition.

Clek Foonf C-Zero Plus Performance in Snow: $579

Clek calls the
Foonf
“the mother of all car seats,” and it’s easy to see why. Convertible for use either as a rear-facing or front-facing seat, the Foonf can accommodate kids up to 65 pounds (i.e., the weight at which most states allow kids to use adult belts). It’s also got Clek’s super-engineered REACT™ energy management system, which reduces the force of frontal collisions for maximum protection

Diono Radian® 3XQT+: $529.99

For families with multiple kids in car seats, there’s the
Diono Radian® 3XQT+
, which promises to fit three across in most mid-size cars and SUVs. It’s also the perfect blend of safety and fashion, with custom SAFE+® engineering and a stylish build with premium materials. Designed for kids all the way from four to 120 pounds, this is the ultimate combination seat.

Is a Rolls-Royce a family car?

Cardi B and Offset might be the only parents with a special Rolls-Royce car seat, but the British make’s luxury offerings are actually well-suited to transporting kids. Here’s why:
  • Custom comfort: When you pay close to half a million for a car, you’re buying more than a world-class engine and a status symbol. Every Rolls-Royce interior focuses on opulence and comfort, with plenty of customization options from massaging seats and rich carpet to an LED-studded starlight ceiling sure to soothe kids to sleep.
  • Rear-seat entertainment: The best family cars are the ones that keep your little ones occupied, and the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Cullinan offer 12-inch seatback screens perfect for playing Frozen on repeat.
  • ISOFIX/LATCH: Every new car is legally required to include ISOFIX anchors (also known as LATCH attachments in the US). Even the ultra-cool Rolls-Royce Wraith is no exception.
  • Tons of space: Legroom and cargo space are major concerns for parents, and Rolls-Royce’s roomy models deliver on both. No need for turf wars in the back seat when you’ve got veritable acres of premium leather to share!

How to pick a car seat for any vehicle

Even if you’re not driving a Rolls or springing for the ultra-high-end seats we listed above, finding the right seat for your child is a crucial decision.
The
NHTSA
recommends keeping your child in a rear-facing seat as long as possible, ideally until age three. However, you can transition to a front-facing seat as early as 12 months or whenever your child has outgrown the height and weight restrictions of the seat’s manufacturer.
Booster seats are the final stage for kids aged eight to 12 years, or younger kids who’ve outgrown their front-facing seats. Although your state may not legally require car seats past age eight (or younger in some states), the NHTSA recommends using some kind of booster seat as long as possible, until your child is big enough to wear an adult seat safely.
  • Read the NHTSA’s guidelines for car seats carefully.
  • Check the NHTSA’s ease of use ratings for various brands using the
    Car Seat Finder
  • Measure your seats before you buy to be sure the seat will fit
  • Get your
    car seat inspected
    by the NHTSA
  • Register for updates about recalls and safety information
