The 2011
Ford Fusion
features a 17.5-gallon fuel tank on the Sedan Hybrid,
S
,
SE
, SEL, and Sport trim, while the all-wheel drive SEL and Sport variants have 16.5-gallon fuel tanks.
As the owner of an efficient 2011 Ford Fusion, it's important to know your fuel tank’s capacity when you roll up to the gas pump. Of course, you can always check your owner’s manual for that information—unless of course, your twin Chihuahuas have used it as an anxiety-reducing chew toy ever since that ill-fated car trip to the dog photographer’s studio.
If you don’t have an owner’s manual, or if it's been ruined beyond recognition, you are in luck!

How big is the gas tank on a 2011 Ford Fusion?

The gas tank capacity on the 2011 Ford Fusion is the same across all trim lines, except if you drive a Ford Fusion V6 Sedan SEL with all-wheel drive or a Ford Fusion V6 Sedan Sport with all-wheel drive. Both of these trims sport 16.5-gallon fuel tanks, while all other 2011 Ford Fusions feature 17.5-gallon tanks.
The 4-cylinder Sedan Hybrid, S, SE, and SEL, along with the V6 SE, SEL, and V6 Sport allhave 17.5-gallon fuel tanks.

How to check your 2011 Ford Fusion’s gas tank size

Of course, there are a few other mostly-foolproof ways of determining your Fusion’s gas tank volume.

Measure the gas tank

It’s pretty easy to determine your gas tank’s volume—all you need is a measuring tape and a calculator. Multiply your gas tank’s length, width, and height, and then divide that number by 231 (the number of cubic inches in a gallon).

Check your owner’s manual

So long as your owner’s manual has not been chewed to smithereens or grown legs and run away to start a life of its own, check it for your gas tank volume. Look up fuel tank capacity or similar phrases and you should find what you’re looking for.

Drive till empty, then fill it up

The old trick of driving your car until the gas gauge reads E for empty is another way to figure out the relative size of your fuel tank. When you fill up from empty, this won’t give you an exact fuel tank measurement, but it will be relatively accurate.

How to save on fuel costs in a Ford Fusion

The 2011 Ford Fusion features solid fuel efficiency, but the more powerful the Fusion, the lower its efficiency. Here’s a handy breakdown of the fuel efficiency for each 2011 trim:
  • 4-cylinder Sedan Hybrid: 38.5 mpg combined
  • 4-cylinder S: 28 mpg combined
  • 4-cylinder SE: 24 mpg combined
  • 4-cylinder SEL: 24 mpg combined
  • V6 Sedan SE: 24 mpg combined
  • V6 Sedan SEL: 24 mpg combined
  • V6 Sedan SEL AWD: 22 mpg combined
  • V6 Sedan Sport: 22.5 mpg combined
  • V6 Sedan Sport AWD: 20.5 mpg combined
Whatever your Fusion’s fuel economy, you can optimize your fuel efficiency in a few ways:
  • Keep up with maintenance: Wear and tear can take a toll on your Fusion and its fuel efficiency, so be sure to take it in for regular service.
  • Drive carefully: Aggressive driving, hard braking, and sudden acceleration can wear down your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
  • Avoid idling: Even in cold weather, idling your car wastes gas for no reason at all. In the winter, allow your car to idle for no more than a minute, and then gently start to drive—your car will warm up quickly.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
