background
The 2019 Lincoln Nautilus has received relatively very few consumer complaints—only 42 registered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, this luxury SUV has been the subject of four official recalls pertaining to airbag deployment and certain driver assistance features.
It’s hard to find a car out there with a clean record free of complaints, but the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus comes close with only 42 complaints for 31,711 models sold. Of course, you should make sure that all active recalls for your specific model have been addressed. You can easily do this by checking the
vehicle’s identification number (VIN)
on used models, too.

The most common 2019 Lincoln Nautilus problems

The 2019 Lincoln Nautilus has 42 logged complaints with the NHTSA. That’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but 18 of those complaints had to do with malfunctions in the electrical systems. Many of these have been addressed by one of the ‘19 Nautilus’ four active recalls, which include the following:
  • Damaged wiring may cause airbag malfunction: This malfunction could cause the airbag to either deploy without cause or fail to deploy in an accident; both increase the risk of a fatal injury.
  • Instrument cluster may go blank on start-up: Drivers reported sudden warning lights followed by a complete failure of the digital instrument panel on the vehicle’s next start-up. This causes the speedometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, safety warnings, and more to be inaccessible while driving.
  • Failure of hands-off-the-wheel alert: The feature that turns off certain autonomous driver assistance features (with alerts to the driver) could fail, raising the risk of an accident due to inattentive driving.
  • Driver airbag plastic cover may detach: The airbag cover could separate during airbag deployment and increase the risk of injury.
The blank instrument cluster was the most common complaint registered by drivers with the NHTSA—but this is good news seeing as it should be easily fixed under the recall. A few drivers also mentioned unexpected vehicle failure at certain speeds, but this could have been due to a dead battery in most cases.
Outside of mechanical defaults, many drivers seem generally displeased with the 2019 Nautilus’ transmission, interior material quality, and forward visibility.

Is the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus reliable?

Being a new luxury SUV, the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus isn’t reviewed or rated by some of the most reputable sources for vehicle reliability reporting—like RepairPal. J.D. Power, however, gives the ‘19 Nautilus a passable 78/100 score for overall quality and reliability.
While it’s hard to gauge the ‘19 Nautilus’ reliability from the lack of multiple sources, you can instead look to J.D. Power’s projected annual average cost of repairs for the first five years of ownership:
  • Year 1: $411
  • Year 2: $633
  • Year 3: $691
  • Year 4: $735
  • Year 5: $790
If you do a little trend analysis, you can see that the ‘19 Nautilus is only expected to get more expensive to maintain the older it gets. That’s a common trend to expect from the average vehicle, and it means that the Nautilus was less likely to see any major unexpected repairs in its first five years of operation!
