background
With potent performance power and best-in-class towing, the 2019 Ford F-250 stands above the competition in the full-size truck segment. But to keep this heavy-duty truck with a 6.2-liter V8 running smoothly—and to avoid costly
car repairs
—knowing its seven-quart engine oil capacity is a must.
  • Knowing the correct oil capacity and type for your Ford F-250 is key to increasing engine performance and fuel economy.
  • You should change your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles if you’re using synthetic oil or 3,000 to 5,000 miles if you’re using conventional oil.

2019 Ford F-250 6.2 engine oil capacity

First things first: what’s the engine oil capacity on a 2019 Ford F-250? Well, it depends on which engine you got under your hood: the 6.2-liter V8 or the 6.7-liter turbocharged diesel V8.
When powered by a mighty 385-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine, the 2019 Ford F-250 has an oil capacity of 7 quarts or 6.6 liters—not to be confused with the engine’s displacement of 6.2 liters.

What kind of oil does a 2019 Ford F-250 need?

Now that we’ve figured out how much oil your F-250 requires, let’s move on to the correct oil type. In order to keep your heavy-duty truck running smoothly, you’ll want to stick with
Ford
’s recommendation—Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil. If you’re not able to find this product, you can also use engine oil of the same viscosity grade that meets API SN Plus requirements with the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines.
If you’re unfamiliar with the wonderful world of motor oils, we’ll break down what this oil grade means:
  • The numbers refer to the oil’s viscosity or thickness
  • The “W” simply stands for winter
  • The number 5 before the “W” means that the oil has a lower viscosity—allowing the engine to perform better in colder weather conditions
  • The number 30 indicates the oil viscosity at its normal operating temperature
  • SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers or the professional organization that codes oil viscosity

How often to change the oil on a 2019 Ford F-250

By this point, you’re on your way to becoming an expert on the 2019 Ford F-250 6.2 oil capacity and type! But before you
change your oil
, make sure it’s the right time to do so.
If you’ve been using the recommended Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil, you can let more time go between oil changes. Experts recommend changing synthetic oil out every 7,500 to 10,000 miles to keep your oil clean and functional.
However, if you’re sticking with conventional motor oil, Ford recommends changing your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or about every six months if you don’t drive a lot.
But considering these wide ranges, you’ll still want to make sure you’re checking your oil level regularly—at least once a month. When you do your monthly checks, keep your eyes peeled for the following warning signs that indicate you’ll need to change your motor oil soon:
  • Engine oil that changes from a clean light brown color to a dirty dark brown color
  • Engine oil that starts to feel coarse or gritty
  • Unusual noises coming from the engine
  • New oily, smokey, or burning odors
  • Changes in your truck’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Have you determined that it’s time for an oil change? Then round up the following materials:
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement filter
  • Socket wrench
  • Seven quarts of Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil
Once you’ve gathered the necessary supplies, you’ll want to let the engine run for about five minutes or so until your truck reaches normal operating temperature. Once you’ve reached this point, turn the engine back off and follow these step-by-step instructions:
  • Open the hood and remove the engine oil filler cap
  • Take off the oil drain bolt and washer underneath the engine, allowing the old oil to drain into the drain pan
  • Detach the old oil filter, allowing the old oil to continue draining
  • Install the new oil filter
  • Switch out the oil drain bolt using a new washer
  • Add new oil to the engine and replace the engine oil filler cap
After you’ve completed this process, turn your engine back on once more—allowing it to warm up for about 30 seconds or long enough to let the new oil fill the new filter. If you’re not sure if you’ve used enough engine oil, use your dipstick to double-check and top it off as needed.
At this point, continue to watch out for any leaks around your truck. Once your dashboard’s
oil pressure light
turns off, you’ll know you’ve successfully changed your oil!
But before you take off, don’t forget to clean up after yourself! Place your old oil in a sealed container and take it to a local recycling center instead of just dumping it out in the garbage.
