How to change the radio on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Swapping out the radio on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler is a pretty simple process. You’ll just need to remove the vent trim panel on top of the dashboard and unscrew the two Phillips screws and nut that holds the radio in place. Afterward, you’ll be ready to install an aftermarket stereo of your choice!
If you’re not ready to swap out your radio just yet, don’t worry we’ve got more detailed instructions below. You’ll just need a Philipps head screwdriver and a 10 mm wrench to get started!

1. Remove the vent trim panel

The panel you need to remove sits on top of the dashboard housing the A/C vents and radio. Wedge the screwdriver or panel tool along the edge of the border to pry off the vent trim panel and expose two Phillips screws.

2. Remove the two screws and panel

There will be two Phillips screws on the top edge of the trim panel. Place the tip of your screwdriver into the Phillips's head and turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to remove the screw. Repeat this step till you remove both screws and set them aside in a safe place (you’ll need those later!)
Pry around the edge of the panel that surrounds the radio receiver and climate controls and remove it from the dashboard. You’ll need your screwdriver or panel tool to do this step.

3. Remove the remaining Phillips screws

Now it’s time to remove the remaining Phillips screws. Start by unscrewing the four Phillips screws from the perimeter of the radio that holds it in place. You’ll then remove two more Phillips screws from the climate control located beneath the radio.

4. Remove the 10 mm bolt

We’ve been focusing on the center dash, but now you’ll need to open the glove box on the passenger side of your Jeep. Loosen the strap holding the glove compartment door and lower the door as far as possible.
You’ll need to insert your hand inside the glove box to reach behind the right side of the radio and locate a bolt. Then, use the wrench to remove the 10 mm bolt that secures the radio in place.

5. Uninstall the radio

Gently pull out the radio and unplug the cables from the back to uninstall your factory radio!
Now you’re all set to make the swap. Reverse those steps, and you should enjoy your upgraded radio system in no time! Some aftermarket radios require vehicle modification before they can be installed. Consult your radio instructions and take your Jeep to a professional for a worry-free installation.
