2007 Ford Focus engine oil capacity

The 2007 Ford Focus engine oil capacity is 4.5 quarts with an oil filter. For the 2007 model year, the Focus was available as a coupe, sedan, or hatchback
Almost every trim level across all body styles has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine except one. The top-level trim of the Focus sedan—the
ST
—is equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine which gives it an extra boost of horsepower. Despite having a slightly larger
engine displacement
, the ST sedan has the same engine oil capacity as its 2.0-liter counterparts—the capacity stays at 4.5 quarts for every 2007 Ford Focus

What kind of oil does a 2007 Ford Focus need?

You can find the specific kind of oil needed for your 2007 Ford Focus in the
owner’s manual
, but if you don’t have it handy right now, don’t worry—we’ve got you! Your 2007 Ford Focus takes
Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 motor oil
Oil classifications may look like a jumble of numbers and letters at first, but they’re actually really easy to understand once you’re familiar with them. Here’s a brief rundown on oil classification codes:
  • SAE is short for Society of Automotive Engineers. This is the group that oversees engine oil classifications and makes sure that they are uniform all over the world.
  • “5W-20” is indicative of an engine oil’s viscosity code. Viscosity is a term used to describe how thick the engine oil is. “0W” and “5W” have the thinnest viscosities. All the “W” means is winter
  • To the right of the dash, you’ll see a number like “20” or “30”. This number represents an oil’s thickness when it’s heated to 212°F. A designation of “20” or “30” means that the motor oil retains its thinness at very hot temperatures as well as very cold temperatures.

How often to change the oil on a  2007 Ford Focus

The owner’s manual for the 2007 Ford Focus specifies that this vehicle calls for Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 motor oil, but it technically doesn’t call for the full synthetic type of oil we linked above.
If you opt for the full synthetic version of the 5W-20 oil, you can go as much as 7,500 miles in between oil changes. Although it’s a little more expensive, synthetic oil lasts longer in your engine than a synthetic blend or conventional motor oil.
With that in mind, it can be challenging to find Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 full synthetic motor oil as the synthetic blend version is more widely available. It’s fine to use synthetic blend oil in your 2007 Focus, you’ll just have to change the oil more frequently—every 3,000 to 5,000 miles
Either way, you should be checking your engine oil about once a month. When you check your oil you need to observe both the oil level and oil cleanliness
Your oil level should always be within the crosshatched portion of the dipstick and no higher than the “MAX” line. If your oil looks clean but is a little low, you can simply top it off—just make sure you top it off with the exact same kind of oil that’s already in the engine.
The texture and color of engine oil tell you how clean it is. Clean engine oil is honey-colored and semi-translucent and darkens as time goes on. If you observe the engine oil taking on a dark, cola-brown color or is gritty, it needs to be changed.
Neglecting oil changes is always a bad idea. The dirty oil will eventually become black and sludgy and can ruin your engine. Vehicles that are overdue for an oil change may also run poorly. You may notice some of these issues:
  • The engine lags or jumps
  • There’s a burning oil smell inside the vehicle
  • Smoke is coming from under the hood

How to change your oil and oil filter

Ready to give this a try? To start, make sure you have all the necessary equipment. Here’s what you’ll need to change the oil:
  • Eye protection and work gloves
  • Car jack and jack stands
  • 4.5 quarts of Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 motor oil
  • Oil funnel
  • Oil drain pan
  • Shop towels
  • Oil filter wrench
  • 13mm socket wrench
Once you have everything together, you can begin the oil change on your 2007 Ford Focus using these steps:
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and raise it up with the jack and jack stands.
  • Position the oil drain pan beneath the oil drain plug on the vehicle underbody, then use the 13mm socket wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and remove it by hand.
  • After the oil has drained, place the oil drain pan underneath the oil filter. You may need to use the oil wrench to loosen the oil filter before removing it manually.
  • Double-check that the old O-ring from the old filter isn’t stuck to the oil filter housing and wipe down the area with a towel. Coat the new oil filter’s O-ring with clean oil before manually screwing it into the oil filter housing.
  • Pop the hood and fill the engine with clean oil.
  • Run the engine for about 45 seconds before checking the oil level. As long as the oil is within the crosshatches of the dipstick, you’re good to go!
As you clean up, don’t forget to properly dispose of the old engine oil and oil filter. Don’t dump oil down the drain or throw it in the trash. Instead,
