The hot Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, the exotic Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, and the exciting BMW M4 are just a few of the top Audi S4 competitors to consider when you’re looking for a new sports sedan.
If you’re looking for something more efficient than an SUV that can still transport four to five people, consider a sports sedan like the Audi S4. The 2022 Audi S4 is a fast, sporty, fashionable sedan with an understated high-performance element. Its light weight allows it to drive better than an SUV—and it’s easy on the eyes!
But depending on what you’re looking for, you may find one of the 2022 Audi S4 competitors better suited for your lifestyle. That’s why
Jerry
, the
trusted comparison tool
that saves drivers time and money on
car insurance
, has created this guide to the eight top sports sedans to consider instead of an Audi S4.

1. Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing

Starting price: $60,390
Selling points: Authentic feel to the steering and highly communicative chassis
Weak spot: Not as fast or luxurious as the competition
The CT4-V Blackwing shines in its ability to master the art of driving while maintaining enough practicality to function well as a commuter car. Despite being Cadillac’s smallest sedan, the CT4-V Blackwing’s twin-turbo V6 engine makes 472 horsepower. Combine that with its rear-wheel drive and standard manual transmission, and you’ve got a sports sedan worthy of the tracks
Where the CT4-V Blackwing falls short is its speed, interior features, and towing capacity. Going from 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds, this peppy Cadillac doesn’t match the speed of competitors like the BMW M3. Its interior luxury features include a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster and heated cushions, but nothing that shines above the rest. Finally, the CT4-V Blackwing has the lowest towing capacity of our eight competitors—only 1,001 lbs.

2. Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Starting price: $80,755
Selling points: Next-level performance, handling, and looks
Weak spot: Questionable reliability, no manual transmission, and the interior falls behind its rivals
This
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
ramps things up with its 505-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Boasting sharp handling and performance capabilities, this exotic beauty puts the fun back into driving. Derived from Ferrari, this gorgeous Italian car is worth considering if you’re looking for something that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
But go in with both eyes open—the Giulia Quadrifoglio has the highest starting price on our list and has a checkered past with regard to reliability. You also won’t find a manual transmission, which can be a deal breaker for many car enthusiasts.

3. BMW M3

Starting price: $71,095 to $73,795
Selling points: Exciting powertrains, works for everyday driving, and optional AWD
Weak spot: Overabundance of drive-mode combos
The 2022
BMW M3
offers a great driving experience on and off the track, powered by a
V6 engine
. For the first time ever, the 2022 M3 offers all-wheel drive for an extra $4,100. Because this new feature is only compatible with the Competition model, it can’t be paired with the six-speed gearbox.
While its many options allow you to customize your ride, they can be excessive. Between its crowded digital gauges and plethora of drive-mode options, things can get hectic. Some critics also complain that the BMW M3’s oversized grille is an eye sore–but these complaints are generally forgotten behind the wheel of its satisfying manual drive.

4. BMW M4

Starting price: $72,995 to $87,295
Selling points: Great driving characteristics powered by an impressive engine and transmission
Weak spot: Too many drive-mode adjustments and complicated digital instrument panel
The
BMW M4
provides impressive powertrains and performance as either a coupe or a convertible. The base hard-top is powered by an exciting 473-hp twin-turbo straight-six and comes with rear-wheel drive. The Competition trims step things up with a 503-hp engine and a unique chassis tuning that results in even higher speeds than its counterpart.
Unfortunately, the M4’s digital gauges are all but indecipherable and would have been better off analog. The excess of drive-mode settings is a complaint it shares with its M3 sibling. It also receives the lowest fuel economy ratings on our list at 18/16/22 mpg, and the
M4's interior
can only accommodate four passengers.

5. Mercedes-AMG C43

Starting price: $61,550 to $68,050
Selling points: Classy interior and peppy acceleration
Weak spot: Limited cargo space and only available as a two-door
This beautiful two-door Mercedes is offered as both a coupe and a convertible. Powered by a twin-turbo V6 that makes 385 horsepower, the Mercedes-AMG C43 puts the “sports” in sports sedan. While its standard all-wheel drive and sharp handling keep it running smooth, the ride quality falters on rougher terrain.
The interior is stylish, stacked with fun features, and comfortable—if you’re in the front seat. Rides in the back seat are crammed in with limited head and legroom. Similarly, the trunk has limited cargo space at only 10.5 cubic feet.

6. Audi RS5

Starting price: $76,995
Selling points: Comfortable, spacious, and exhilarating acceleration
Weak spot: Not very interesting to drive
While the
Audi RS5
is comfortable and speedy, its driving experience leaves something to be desired. Powered by a 444-hp twin-turbo V6 engine, the RS5 is not lacking in speed or strength—its added power and track-ready hardware are part of why the Audi RS5 is so expensive. It also has the highest towing capacity on our list, at 5115 lbs.
Despite its exciting acceleration, stylish exterior, and spacious interior, the Audi RS5 isn’t as fun to drive as its competitors. That being said, there is no lack of luxury inside the RS5—need we say more than massaging front seats?

7. Kia Stinger

Starting price: $37,435 to $52,635
Selling points: Stylish aesthetic with hatchback practicality
Weak spot: Not as luxurious as its rivals
While the 2022
Kia Stinger
doesn’t have the luxury-brand badge, it’s a compelling and affordable option in the sports sedan class.
There are two different engine options for the Kia Stinger: a 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 368-hp twin-turbo V6.  Its premium feel, powerful optional V6, and hatchback practicality make it a well-rounded choice for shoppers on a budget.
Unlike your typical hatchback, the Stinger masks its liftgate with a sleek fastback roofline. However, you still get all the extra space—by far the most cargo space on our list—with an impressive 23.3 cubic ft of trunk space. It’s also the cheapest sports sedan we’re looking at, with a starting price of only $37,435.

8. Genesis G70

Starting price: $38,570 to $53,545
Selling points: Affordable, classy cabin, and playful handling
Weak spot: Tight backseat and unimpressive base engine
Our final rival for the Audi S4 is another surprisingly luxurious model from an unexpected brand. The
Genesis G70
boasts a
high-end interior
and an athletic powertrain
You have two engine options to select from: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6. We recommend opting for the V6 engine, whose thrust sends the G70 from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 4.7 seconds.
Genesis sweetens the deal by throwing on a ten-year warranty, which is over double what most entry-luxury cars offer.
