background
You can find the command for remotely starting your car in the “Remote Command” section of your HondaLink® app. Simply press the “Start” button, and your engine will run for 10 minutes.
In the boiling heat of summer or the freezing cold of winter, it’s nice to be able to moderate your car’s temperature before you have to actually get in it. It’s even nicer to do that without having to step foot outside. That’s where remote start comes in.
Honda’s app, HondaLink, allows you to start your car with your phone. Just push a button, and it springs to life like magic. But how exactly do you use it? And what other features does it come with?

Honda makes it as easy as possible to start your car remotely. First, download the app through the App Store (for iPhone users) or Google Play (for Android users). You’ll have to scan your VIN and create an account if you don’t already have one.
After your account is set up, navigate to the “Remote Commands” section. Two options should pop up: “Engine” and “Doors.” You’ll want to look under “Engine” and find the “Start” button. Once you’ve hit it, your car will stay on for 10 minutes (or until you start driving), and an in-app timer will begin a countdown to show you how long you have left.

How to turn your Honda off remotely

Don’t worry if you’ve hit it by accident—simply press the “Stop” button, and the car will shut back down. Alternatively, if you’d like to keep it on longer, the “Extend” button will allow it to stay on for another 10 minutes.
There’s more to HondaLink than remote-starting your car. Honda offers two upper-tier packages that both include remote start and stop capabilities: Remote and Concierge. Benefits of the Remote package include:
  • Alarm alerts: Whenever something trips your vehicle’s security system, the app will notify you.
  • Lock/Unlock: In addition to starting and stopping your car’s engine, you can lock and unlock the doors—all from your smartphone!
  • Find My Car: Gone are the days of roaming the parking lot searching for one car amongst dozens. You can see your car’s location right in the app!
  • Geofence alert: Got teenage drivers? Set boundaries for where the car can go and get notified if it leaves the area you’ve specified.
  • Voice commands: Tell your phone where you want to go, and the app will send directions directly to your car.
  • Stolen vehicle locator: A little more advanced than the Find My Car feature, this locator will help law enforcement in the case of your car being stolen.
  • Alexa commands: You can use Alexa to give commands to your car, such as flashing the lights, sounding the horn, and checking gas levels or oil life.
  • Driver feedback: Receive a score based on how well you drive. Improve your driving habits and your score will go up.
The Concierge package includes all of these features and adds on the additional benefit of—you guessed it—a personal concierge! Enjoy having hotel, restaurant, and airline reservations made for you and sent right to your car.

Is Honda’s remote start app free?

While the app does offer complimentary packages, both the Remote and Concierge packages are paid services. However, you don’t have to start paying for them immediately. Honda offers three months free before their annual subscription price kicks in. Once your free period is up, you’ll have to pay $110 a year for the Remote package or $260 a year for the Concierge package.
If you don’t care about remotely starting your car and just want to see what the HondaLink app is all about, you can opt for the Basic or Link packages. Neither of these are quite as fancy as Remote or Concierge, but they’ll help you keep track of service appointments and recalls, share health reports on your vehicle, add favorite destinations, and more!
It’s worth mentioning there’s a middle ground—the Security package. It’s free for a full year, then $89 for the annual subscription. You still can’t start your car from the app, but it has features like enhanced roadside assistance and automatic collision notification. It even includes driver feedback.

Which Honda vehicles have remote start?

Not every Honda model and trim is compatible with HondaLink. In general, it’s a safe bet that all newer models come with the basic capabilities of the app. For more expansive packages like Remote and Concierge, you’ll need to look for higher-end trims.
