The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer doesn’t exactly knock the numbers out of the park when it comes to MPG. But for a midsize SUV that can comfortably seat five while still offering over 30 cubic feet of cargo volume, it performs pretty well in terms of fuel efficiency.
Its standard turbo-four engine gets a combined 25 mpg, which beats most other gasoline-powered 2022 midsize SUVs. Although in some trims, the Blazer’s efficiency is outperformed by the
Hyundai Santa Fe
GMC Acadia
, it still holds its own by getting up to 29 mpg on the highway.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer fuel economy

All the 2022 Blazer trim levels show pretty good fuel efficiency for its class, but you’ll get the best mileage with the standard 228-horsepower turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder. That engine configuration gets up to 22 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway if it’s paired with a front-wheel drive system. If you choose all-wheel drive, you’ll still get up to 22 mpg in the city, but your highway mpg drops to 27.
If you upgrade to the V6 engine, you’ll get 80 more horsepower—but it’ll cost you some efficiency. The FWD 3.6-liter V6 gets an estimated city/highway MPG of 19/27, making for a combined 22 mpg. With the AWD drivetrain, the V6’s highway mpg drops to 26, and its combined total just reaches 21 mpg.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer good on gas?

Though the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer nears the top of its class for fuel efficiency—at least among traditional gas-powered vehicles—it doesn’t come close to matching the MPG on 2022’s compact SUV lineup, let alone any of the hybrid, electric, or PHEV vehicles.
But when you compare it to other gas-fueled midsize SUVs, the Blazer is tough to beat. Its combined MPG gets more to the gallon than the
Nissan Murano
Ford Edge
, or
Honda Passport
. On combined mileage, those models respectively get 20 mpg, 21 mpg, and 21-25 mpg.

How to improve fuel efficiency for a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer

You can always take steps to preserve and improve your 2022 Blazer’s efficiency. Simple things like careful driving and proper maintenance can go a long way in getting every mile you can out of a gallon of gas. Try these tips to improve your gas mileage:
  • Turn on the cruise control. This will keep you from slamming on the accelerator or hitting the brakes, both of which can waste gas. Instead, you’ll travel at a fuel-preserving steady, and consistent pace.
  • Don’t haul unnecessary cargo. It’s easy and tempting to leave a load of boxes destined for the Salvation Army in the back of your SUV for a few days or weeks. But that extra weight just makes your car work harder, and it uses more gas. Unload your car when you can to keep the load light.
  • Keep a maintenance schedule. Getting your routine maintenance services done correctly and on time will help your car run as efficiently as possible for years to come.
