The Most Common 2018 Acura ILX Problems

Electrical, driveshaft, and fuel gauge issues make the 2018 Acura ILX a model year to avoid.

background
Could the 2018 Acura ILX win the title of worst year ever for the ILX? One thing’s for certain—it’s not great.
While Honda enjoys a reputation as one of the safest and most reliable automakers around, nobody’s perfect. Recalls, complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and poor reviews plagued the 2018 Acura ILX. The ILX may certainly have some good years, but 2018 doesn’t seem to be one of them.

The most common 2018 Acura ILX problems

They say you can’t win ‘em all, and this certainly seems to be the case with the 2018 Acura ILX.
Hondas
are known for their reliability and safety, so it would make sense that their luxury division would deliver more of the same. While that’s generally true, the 2018 Acura ILX seems to be an exception. With 2 recalls and 6 official complaints to the NHTSA, the 2018 Acura ILX might have the dubious distinction of being the worst ILX year ever
So what’s the problem? In addition to lackluster reviews, two recalls were issued. One was for inaccuracies in the fuel gauge, which could lead to running out of gas when you weren’t expecting it. The second was for the driveshaft separating from the half shaft, which has led to a sudden loss of drive power or the car moving even in park—a very dangerous defect.
Other reported problems included:
  • Unintuitive controls
  • Bumpy transmission
  • Lots of road noise
  • Electrical issues
Consumer Reports was soundly unimpressed as well and didn’t sugar coat it, declaring that charging $30,000 or more for a car such as the 2018 ILX amounts to “total chutzpah on Honda’s part.”
Many reviewers have also pointed out that these issues appeared pretty early on in the car’s lifespan, which doesn’t bode well for its continued road-worthiness as time goes by.

Is the 2018 Acura ILX reliable?

The Acura ILX has an above-average rating on RepairPal, with a score of 4.5 out of 5. That being said, they don’t seem to have a ton of data or reports on the 2018 model year specifically. J.D. Power is silent as well, with no rating being given under the “Quality and Reliability” parameter.
RepairPal reports that the average annual cost of Acura ILX repairs is around $435 for the model as a whole, but doesn’t have specifics for the 2018 model. Long story short? If you’re interested in the Acura ILX, best to skip the 2018 year. There seem to be a lot of unknowns, and what is known isn’t all that great—especially for a vehicle that’s supposed to be a luxury model.
