Jeep
has positioned its brand as the ultimate off-road vehicle, rugged and ready to go anywhere. Off-roaders swear by the brand even though it has not made great strides in finishing, comfort, and interior fit. Many models have survived over decades in the market, a testament to excellent engineering, reliability, and functionality.
These include the automakers’ affordable compact SUVs, pickup trucks, and crossovers. Jerry explores Jeep’s SUV line-up in detail.
Some of Jeeps popular SUVs: the Cherokee, Compass, and Renegade
According to Consumer Reports
, the Cherokee lineup has three SUV models. They include the Jeep Cherokee which is a midsize SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, a full-size SUV, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, a crossover SUV. The Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L come with V-6 and V-8 engine options and are the largest in the lineup, while the Jeep Cherokee runs on a V-6 engine and is more compact. There is also a limited Grand Cherokee model.
On the other hand, the Jeep Compass is a compact SUV, a great everyday vehicle for small and medium-sized families. The automaker has created it as the most stylish option of the three, with the latest technologies and luxurious finish. It runs on a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine.
Jeep
lists Renegade as a subcompact model but looks much more like the blocky Wrangler. Its latest model uses a turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The model is more rugged than the other two, with large interior space for your travel cargo.
The Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Gladiator Jeeps
Wagoneer SUVs offer a mix of comfort, performance, and space. They run on a V8 engine with 392 hp and 471 hp options.
The Grand Wagoneer is the largest and provides various comfort features, while the standard Jeep Wagoneer jeeps offer performance and convenience for a small family.
The Wrangler is the ultimate off-road SUV in the lineup, with features like solid axles, body-on-frame construction, and a choice of two and four-door configurations. However, it lacks many of the features you find on premium SUVs listed in this article.
On the other hand, if you wish for a better off-road vehicle, the Gladiator jeep fits the bill. It has a longer wheelbase and runs on a V-6 engine mated with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. You can climb rocks and drive into extreme landscapes with this model.

Can you still buy new Patriot, Liberty, and Commander Jeep SUVs?
No, Patriot, Liberty, and Commander have been discontinued. However, you can still find used models on the market. Most of the new SUVs have been redesigned to incorporate the good features of the discontinued models.
For example, the Commander is made on the same platform as the Grand Cherokee but looks boxier and less agile than the latest model. On the other hand, the Liberty looked like a subcompact Wrangler, while the Patriot was based on the Jeep Compass configuration.
