Nissan
gave the general public its first look at the new Z during the 2022 New York International Auto Show. And first impressions of the highly anticipated performance sports car did not disappoint.
With a pair of Zs dazzling spectators, Nissan showed off a broad spectrum of packages offered on the Z. Both the car’s trim packages—Sport and Performance—as well as the two transmission options were on display at the show. However, if you imagine yourself behind the wheel of the new Z, you'll want to ensure you have the

What the Nissan Z gets right

After months of marketing hype videos and advertisements, the 2023 Nissan Z was certainly a crowd pleaser to many, including
Autoevolution
reviewer Benny Kirk. Of course, he’ll reserve final judgment until auto journalists are allowed to get behind the wheel and take the performance vehicle for a spin around the track in mid-May.
The new Z takes enough pieces from previous editions, beginning with a round homage built into the headlights to signal the original 1970 Datsun 240Z, to stamp its place in the Z lineage. Nissan blends the historical pieces with a modern chassis, 400 horses under the hood, and enough high-tech touches to appeal to modern-era sports car enthusiasts.
A twin-turbocharged, three-liter V6 engine generates that 400 horsepower that will take both Nissan Z trims from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds. That's some pretty serious speed for what intends to be a mid-level performance car, but it will allow those who can't afford to drop six figures on a car to get into the racing game.

Elevating the interior game

Autoevolution was particularly impressed with the interior of the new Z, an area where Nissan has underperformed in previous Z models. After comparing the 350Z and 370Z interiors to something suitable for an Altima or Maxima, Autoevolution says the new Nissan Z features an interior fitting of a performance racer.
The two-toned color scheme and the plush Alcantara lining of the seats make the seats both stylish and comfortable for a long day on the track or cross-country trek, perfect for a racing model. An eight-speaker Bose sound system and the 8- or 9-inch infotainment screen (depending upon the model) offer the modern environment drivers crave.

Can I afford a 2023 Nissan Z?

Though Nissan hasn't announced the pricing for the Nissan Z, which is expected to be available in the fall when new 2023 models are released, the price is anticipated to start in the $40,000 range. While that may fall in the higher range for a two-door passenger car, it's firmly in the lower range for a two-seat performance sports car, giving the novice racer or enthusiast who likes to rip around the streets a good starting option.
Whether the Nissan Z can compete with the Toyota Supra or its cousins in the Infiniti luxury division will be better determined once reviewers get behind the wheel and take it spinning around the track.
